I’m in Tokyo.

A couple from MN met up with us. They are much younger. I fished with my bud for years and then they packed up and moved to the Midwest.

We just blew embarrassing $$ at a fishing tackle shop. The information overload is real. For us. For them? I think it’s overwhelming. They are such picky eaters. No seafood, no pork. Mostly chicken. I suspect they are going to starve. :)

We met up, shopped, ate lunch…us. They barely ate. We separated since I’m hitting kitchen stores next, and they are not interested.

This is an amazing place. This morning I jogged the straightest line. 2 miles in, 2 miles out. My mental compass/gps is wonkers. I’m immediately lost.

I hope my buds survive:). We are all adults, I can’t be responsible

A long visit to Japan is on my bucket list!

In addition to the amazing culture......they have a vibrant surfing scene!

Tokyo is an amazing place. So efficient, clean, and organized. You can train/tram anywhere, and walking, even late at night is no worries. Hard to believe it's so big - doesn't feel like it. Not a great place if you don't like food! But it is if you do. Have fun.

We were in Japan in September. It was really lovely. Your friend can find lots to eat at 7-11. Not kidding. We ate there many times. A fun (and free) activity could be to see the movie shorts projected on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building every night from 6:30 to 9:45. It wasn't super crowded. Have fun! Keep us posted.

I just said “thank you for the meal” to the chef, and the entire restaurant clapped and cheered!

I was just in Yilan, Taiwan a few days ago. Robust surf scene! I was surprised.

I will be there in February. Just picked out my flights yesterday. Well, flying into Haneda and then 'planes, trains, and automobiles' to Katsuta about two hours north.

I am not an adventurous eater, but I find that there is plenty in Japan to love. Your friends would probably like tonkatsu. Basically breaded/fried pork cutlets with an awesome sauce over it.

Why in the world would a couple that does not eat seafood go to Japan? Kinda like going to Italy and not eating pasta. I assume they can find KFC and McDonald's and eat like they were at home.

Enjoy! I'm super jealous. My only issue is that I'd want to visit Tokyo, Kyoto, the north (Aomori and Misawa since that's where I lived), etc.... I need to win the lottery and spend a year. That might do it.

It sucks for your friends if they don't like seafood, but there should still be plenty of stuff that they can eat. Hell, when we were there we even managed to find a "Shakey's Pizza" in the far north.

Katsudon is another item that they should eat, breaded fried pork over rice with a broth poured over it.

I need to go. Back when our kids were young we hosted Japanese exchange students in our home. One each year for 4 years. They were HS or college aged and came to be immersed in the English language and American culture. We have stayed in touch with two of them and they have invited us to go several times.

I think we need to do this. Japan is a very interesting culture, very different than the US and our former students would love to show us around.

Oh man! Slacker! You need to go for sure. What an amazing opportunity to go and have sponsors that are friends and happy and willing to show you around.

So jealous! I did an overnight in Tokyo years ago and was absolutely captivated. Plus I binge watched “James May Our Man In Japan”.:) I would love to go there as a tourist. Plus could eat sushi for every meal, so I’m good. Post some pics!

Heads up. 7-11 is far far better than what we have in the US. Not the greasy dogs on rollers that y'all are thinking.

I tried a Japan batting cage. Couldn’t read the buttons and had 100kph balls flying past me. I found the 80kph button, so I could see the balls fly past me clearer. I sucked.

I googled and a kickball cage doesn’t exist. My wife was on the floor laughing at me. Hahaha. I stepped into the pro cage and the Japanese attendant waved me out and pointed me towards the slower boxes. It was obvious:)

A girl in big boots and a mini skirt outranked me. Some anime girl. 🧒

LOL! Good story. Recognized right away that you weren't pro-material, and bested by a teen anime girl. Good stuff!
