OK.

In lots of places the locals call US-41 by whatever name the road used to be before it became a US Hwy (one stretch is called the Delaware Shortcut, for example) due to modern roads having been laid on top of ancient Indian trails.

Back in the olden days, the road I live on used to be the main trail from the uplands (deer and bear country) to East Grand Traverse Bay (fish and transportation).

About 1/2 way between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor is Brockway Mountain. You can drive to the summit which is almost 3/4 mile elevation where you have before you an almost 340° view of Gitchee Gumee (Lake Superior) below. There used to be a shack up there where an old Chippewa lady sold stuff. It was protected as an historical landmark and memorial to the intrepid woman. I don’t know if it’s still there.

^^^ Yes, I remember taking that to the top with the Honda....it was a spiral all the way...paved.
I was thinking that it was right in Copper Harbor. I don't remember seeing anybody at the top...but it was in 1978
I do remember stopping in both Calumet and Houghton to explore some old stores.

Driveway cleanup today.
I first shovel the 30x40 ft area in front of the garage in the first pic. (with a sidewalk shovel)
The second pic is after using the 8hp snowblower to do the two legs (10x40 ft each) of the drive.
The Yard King is running great after using the Techron and rec gas.

8 inches of new snow forecast for tonight.

Woke up yesterday to a foot of snow.It was bitterly cold. Spent 2.5 hours clearing my driveway and my neighbours. Thankfully I have a snowblower, best investment for the house. Cleared the deck canopy today, started snowing tonight. Rinse and repeat tomorrow.

There is no winter over here in the PNW. Warmest driest start to “winter” since, maybe, 2005? Just went skiing, was like skiing in April or May - warm, not much snow.

Your weather seems to be about the same as here...makes sense. Both about the same latitude and both with the snow making water nearby.
I also had to snowblow twice yesterday....and there is a lot more on the way in the next week.

We got just the slightest amount of snow last night, barely worth shoveling, but there was a slight glimmer of brightness coming through the clouds, so I did a quick shovel figuring that I could get my driveway back to clear. Worked pretty well.

The cold has returned for the next week with some below zero and high in the teens.

Too bad we have hardly any snow cover as I really would like to cross country ski.

So you get hit a few hours before us.
Woke up to 3-4 inches of wet snow. It was warm today around freezing. Now the wind kicked in and temperature has dropped

We have had almost two weeks of strong chinook conditions that have stripped out most of the snow in the city. A couple of days hit well above 50 deg F or 10 deg C.

I love this time of year when the daylight hours in our location increases by almost 3 minutes per day as we march towards spring.

We've had an unusually warm January so far, but it looks like the party is over.
I have to go out and shovel the driveway and sidewalk tomorrow, but other than that I can't see myself leaving the house unless absolutely necessary.

Same here...it gives one more energy in the morning to wake up to daylight starting.

9 degrees here and windy. Looks like about 6 inches of new snow. Snowblowing will be not fun with the wind.

Current forecast for central Va this weekend is 15 plus. And it'll be in the low 30's for the upcoming week. Normally any big snow here melts in a day or two, this is gonna be a mess.

My weather app is predicting 9.7 inches of snow for Saturday and 10.75 for Sunday . If we get 20 inches in north Georgia we will be paralyzed . Sure glad I have my diesel dually 4x4 but hopefully the predictions are wrong . There will be so many accidents and power outages it could get quite ugly . Glad I am retired .

Yeah, I'm going to go out and plug the block heater in on Friday morning. Lows in the 10-15 degree range all week following, and I'll need the truck. Don't "need" to go out, but being stuck isn't attractive.
More worried about power issues than anything. Have a full propane tank and a genny.
