Deep freeze and lots of snow predicted for my area in NC
8 to 14 inches followed by freezing rain

Principal at my Wife’s school told everyone to prepare to teach from home all of next week.

Yeah, ice is going to be a problem just south of me, ice, then tons of snow, then maybe more ice. That's hell on powerlines.

Yeah, power outages and also water mains breaking, we have had quite a few already rupture in the triangle this winter.

I just hope it stays mostly snow.

Power outages are not fun....especially in this frigid air.
Some live without a back-up heat source and it's not good.

Our forecasted high on Friday is 1 degree.

Fahrenheit....the low is -9 F.
Although if it's not windy (as it's been)...it's tolerable.

Appears we’re getting a slight reprieve tomorrow of around 23F and then the rest of the week way below zero at times.

I need to drive the 911 out of the garage and turn it around in preparation for an engine drop, so tomorrow afternoon it is!

Doesn’t appear that snow is in my near future.

More drifting snow last night. It’s bitterly windy and cold. It’s minus 14 C and it’s expected to stay cold and we’re getting more snow tomorrow.

We are screwed here in the PNW. Snowpack in Oregon is the lowest since records started in 1980-ish, Washington is not much better, and there is basically no chance of ending the winter with a normal snowpack. There is a not-small chance my local resort may have to end the season early. The drought and forest fire risk this summer will be very bad.

Slow down. Blinkers on. Don't get pressured to chase the lemmings.
There's plenty of time to beep back while driving past the aftermath.

More than 100 vehicles pile up on US motorway after crash

More than 100 vehicles were involved in a pile-up that closed the I96 interstate road in Ottawa County, Michigan on 19 January.

State police reported that there had been multiple injuries but no fatalities.

One man involved in the accident said he could barely see the cars in front of him due to the snow when driving 20-25 mph (32-40km/h) before the crash.

Southwest Rockies are still very rocky. Not snowy. There's a not-small chance many ski areas may not even really open beyond a WROD on an easy run or two. I'm at 7200' in northern NM and I'm watering my trees rather than (typically for this time of year) shoveling snow.

January mountain biking's never been this good. I fear the spring fire season...

Forget the TP and milk, I need to stock up on booze!

They are calling for 10+ inches here starting Friday night. I’m supposed to be flying into Baltimore on Sunday, have a feeling that may not happen….
