I am actually a bit of a left handed hybrid . I write left handed and throw left handed . But I bat right handed and kick a ball with my right foot . Throw a Frisbee with my left hand . Use power tools with the right . Can bowl with either hand . Yeah I am a mess 🙃

When I drive, I always steer mostly with my left hand. Driving a stick shift and shifting with my right hand, steering with my left mostly.

Otherwise, righty for me.

<raises left hand> I’m left-side dominant in basically everything.

My wife, 2 of 3 kids and myself are all lefties. Probably need a group exorcism or something as we are well above the average 10% of the population distribution. Most of us have been forced to learn to do things righty due to the available technology in the world. I think this taught us to approach problems with a fresh perspective. There were a few teachers in my early years who attempted to cure me from my evil ways but it didn't stick.

I write lefty (poorly), catch and throw lefty, bat lefty, shoot a rifle lefty, shoot a bow righty, play guitar righty, golf? (Don't ask). I have the ugliest swing you have ever seen.

Why are lefty's handwriting so bad many seem to curl their hand as they write?

I am extremely right handed. I had to train my left to do some simple task like using a drill or some other tools over the years. Wife on the other hand(ha) is completely ambidextrous. Writes perfectly fine with both hands, no curling of her left hand. Uses utensil like chop sticks perfectly fine. I can't even hold a pair of chop sticks with my left forget eating with it.

Have you guy ever try wiping your ass with your less dominate hand? I tried like hell when I broke my collar bone and three ribs. It was hell, no control.

I learned early as a child that the left hand curl kept the side of your palm getting covered in ink . But it made my signature look like an earthquake syzemegraph :D

My grandmother was born in 1901. Back when the teachers would smack the back of her hand if they saw her using her left hand to write. She ended up growing up ambidextrous. She would write long letter and after a while and her had would get tired and she would start writing with her other hand.

What was the reason for forcing kids to use their right hand back then?

SamC. 12-25-2025 05:10 PM

Left handed thru and thru. My "Penmanship" is a curious combination of cursive and block letter writing. Family legend has it that I corrected my 1st grade teacher on writing skills. Upon reading ( or attempting to read) my script, the teacher announced that I was a "Southpaw". My indignant response was that I was no Southpaw, but rather was proudly from the state of Florida!

I’m a lefty in everything. My wife was left handed and my younger sister is a lefty. My handwriting is pretty good. Wife’s handwriting sucked. Tiny, letters ran into each other, hard to read. She should have been a doctor..

I'm a lefty. My wife gave me a pair of left handed Fiskars for Christmas - my first left handed pair since grade school.

Superstition. At some point left-handed people were believed to be evil so all sorts of interventions were tried to "cure them" of this affliction.

Interesting. Most cultures around the world seems to do the same thing but I am unsure if evil is the same reasoning?

i'm left handed, but just on one side. i used to have a cat with two left feet.
it had two right feet as well.

Pazuzu 12-25-2025 08:36 PM

.

So they can see what they’ve written. Righties can see what they’ve written, keep a straight line, and keep from dragging their hand through ink.

In French "left" is " gauche" in Italian it's "sinistra"

Lucky guy. I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

I shoot a rifle and a pistol right handed. When I played soccer I kicked with my left.

I eat left handed (knife in the left).

KFC911 12-26-2025 02:31 AM

I'd bet the ratio of lefties here on PPOT is significantly higher than in the masses ... and over in PARF too :D!

An observation that prevailed in my former career ... most had beards also... fwiw ...

.... A couple of smokin' hawt, bleach blond super techies in the mix tho' ... I never noticed which hand they preferred to use ;)
