Should I have said something?
Need a small board to be jammed under the fence to keep the neighbor's new puppy from digging under our fence before it comes over to eat me. Off to Home Depot after dinner.
I was asking the man there about small scrap pieces then I hear this British guy, du-rag, tight shirt and some type of tight track pants cuts in asking about cutting some plastic track like pieces. Of course, we stopped and the Homedepot man had to answer him only to find out that his piece was bought at IKEA but he demanded it be cut. He slips the home depot guy 10 bucks and the dummy goes and turn on the radial arm saw while I dig through the pile of small pieces. I know it was going to be chipped into a thousand pieces with that dull as a butter knife cross cutting blade. Now this British guy is pissed and demanded he or they pay for his piece, screaming. In the mean time, all the scrap pieces are too short so I go and get a rough fence board. He's screaming at the manager demanding that they pay for this piece or they own him a new set of whatever it was he bought at IKEA for 600+ dollars. What an azz hold, but I dislike home depot as well, and walked off to pay for my fence board. Thinking about on my way home, I should have said something. Where do these people get off thinking like this? Everyone is owe a service or something? Would you have said something? |

Nope, I would not get involved, not my problem. Why be a part of negative situation if you don't have to, even if the guy was in the wrong? HD person should've said "nope" also.

Ticked me off a little because he just barged into our conversation like if I didn't exist, didn't wait until neither of us to pause just interjected.

Clarifying my response: I was thinking about the plastic being cut, and breaking into pieces. After the British guy was rude, I would not tell him about the plastic.
But if he was butting in to be helped and taking the HD guy away from you, I would’ve said something. |

The guy proved he is a hot head by screaming at the HD folks , you want to take a chance getting shot in the parking lot ? In today's angry/armed society be careful who you pick your battles with .

The HD guy should have told the Brit$hit that he would talk with him when he was finished talking with you. If Brit$hit continued, then yes, I would've said hey buddy, wait your freaking turn and gone from there.
I initially thought you were asking if you should've said something about the job the Brit$hit was wanting done. Sent from my SM-S916U using Tapatalk

Said something? Hell no, I wouldn't have been able to form a word while LMAO. At both of them.
The HD id s joke in itself and I don't have to remind myself when I get there once or 2wcie a year. AFA stepping in front of you during a conversation that happens all the time. Yeah, I'll say something, :Wait your F*****g turn. No one is going to throw a punch inside the store and if they do you just made payday. Security cameras. |

I would not confront azzwipe directly but probably would have calmly walked to the front of the store and encouraged them to call security to the saw station because there was a dangerously unruly customer screaming at an employee. Then quietly sat back and watch the show.
I worked as a lifeguard/swim instructor in college and one of the training fundamentals was to assess the situation and if it looks like it is getting out of control, get help. We had the local cops on speed dial and they responded promptly to out-of-control teen gang bangers who occasionally created an incident on the pool deck. Once the cops arrived these juiced-up teens would usually get in the cops face and were promptly handcuffed and hauled off. It was a good system that prevented lifeguards from getting knifed in the back.

The world is full of people like that. Fortunately, we get to choose whether or not we let them into ours.
With no more at stake than a piece of scrap wood and a few moments of your time, you did the right thing. |

I'm not sure what you are asking and what you should have said.
If I knew, 100%, the saw was going to chew up the piece, I would have told the HD guy and guy that. And I probably would have said to test a scrap piece if there was anything similar on the scrap cart. I love the scrap cart. Number of times I've needed a small piece of wood, go to HD to buy a piece to cut down, find what I need in the cart, I ask a HD guy if I can have it, always says yes.

Sounds like you feel you should have said something about them cutting the board for him?
Or are we getting this wrong?

over 30 years ago, I worked at FLAPS. I worked at 3 different locations in the same general area. One of them was a poor part of town. When I worked there, the older folks we on the whole, the most polite and down to earth folks you'd ever meet and a pleasure to work with. Some/many of the young folks (<25) were rude and obnoxious. On more than one occasion, I'd be having a conversation with a customer trying to get info so I could get them what they needed when a young guy would come in and try to interrupt.
"Hey man, I need a part!" "Hey, hey, you need to get me a ____" Nope, I did not deal with that. I was't rude, but I would tell them, "I'm talking to this guy who was here before you. When I'm done, then I'll deal with you," or something like that. They usually calmed down. They'd occasionally get irritated and even more obnoxious, but I would not budge. I suspect, although I don't remember any specific instance, that some customers may have said "go on and get him, I can wait." When I see someone in a store/business being a twat these days, I often think to myself how wonderful it would be to tell them to STFU, but I don't get involved. It's up to the business folks to deal with problem customers. It might be different if the problem was essentially trying to take from me (as in the case of this thread). I'm sure that most sheiße people are like that because it does often get them what they want because many/most folks don't want to deal with it. It's a shame more of them aren't taught the M Tyson lesson, "everyone's got a plan until they get punched in the mouth."
