I’ve had probably 8 or 10 MOHS surgeries. Always got it on the first cut (so far). Last two were for melanomas on my face. Blue eyed blond doesn’t help. Dermatologist sent me up to Charleston to MUSC for those two. The surgeon had a 911 and a Panomera…business was good.

I’ve been there on my neck. Dr only took one pass too.

I have some scar stuff that worked great for me if you’d like a link.

[QUOTE=HobieMarty;12603711]They looked to me like a dry patch of skin. The spots would dry up almost like a scab and then start to peel at the edges or even crack and I would then pick at them to remove the dry parts and then they would be smooth. The one on my shoulder would sometimes be sore after messing with it like that but after a day or so it would be back to normal, then the whole process would start again and repeat about every 2 or 3 weeks.

This is pretty much what mine was like, except it had a scab that never healed and fell off. The doc didn't stitch mine up saying the area was big enough it might pull my eyebrow and eye lid into a funny shape.

I've had seven or eight basal cell and one squamous cell - all on my head. Others on my arms and legs. I'm blond and blued eyed.

The worst was when I spent two summers at the Grand Canyon rarely wearing a hat. seven thousand ft elevation in AZ is not good. My Dr. has said it's all the sun exposure in your 20s and 30s that you will pay for later in life. I now feel like I'm always getting something biopsied or cut out.

I've had many Mohs over the last 30 years, luckily never yet had melanoma, usually squamous or basal cell. It is important to keep the dressings lubed with Vaseline or something similar and follow the care instructions. One unappreciated benefit of these surgeries is by pulling the surrounding tissue in to close the area removed the surgeon is "tightening up" the surrounding skin and smooths out some of the wrinkles! Good luck!

Thanks, and yes they said to keep a glob of Vaseline on the wound when changing the bandage. I didn't sleep well last night and every time I would turn over I felt like I was pulling the stitches out. I woke this morning and my forehead was really sore, been taking ibuprofen most of the day.

You are welcome.

I use Aquaphor on the ones I get frozen off as well. Had a few big ones of those a few weeks ago.

My daughter actually has some Bio Oil and we use Aquaphor lotions also. Thanks.

I changed the bandage tonight. Geeez, I feel like Frankenstein!!! The spot was only about the size of a dime but the cut is a whole lot bigger. I am going to look for a thinner bandage, the ones we have are just overkill. I looked at silicone tape but it is not recommended to apply the tape directly over a cut or broken skin so, that's a no go. Oh well, hope it heals up quickly.

Another vote for Aquaphor.

Removing the stitches is always fun!

What is the process for removing stitches? Does it hurt? Will they numb the area again to remove the stitches?
The stitches will be removed Tuesday morning and I am wondering if I should stay home from work that day? I am actually off from work through next Monday, go back Tuesday.

I say that because it bugs me, you may have no issues. They simply clip and remove. I meant to be tongue-in-cheek, not alarming, sorry.

It should be no problem for you to go back to work.

Whew, okay thanks for the clarification. I'm just a big wuss when it comes to stuff like this. Lol

I did last year. Tedious but effective. Honestly I think it’s more about reduced scaring, but at my age, scars are cooler than “beauty” if I’m to be honest.

Both times I had melanomas removed on the side of my face, they were the size of a pencil point but wound up with 17 stitches or something. Both times after healing no sign of a scar. After the second one, one of my daughters sent me these things that she had used after MOHS on her face. You will be fine with probably no scar.
