Reese is on the right, a dappled long hair. She is 15. She caught one mouse that Reuben was chasing, and the mouse ran right to her. She just grabbed it and gobbled it down.
They both look clear eyed and very healthy for their age. Impressive!

Reese is blind in her right eye. She developed very high eye pressure so the vet put her on three eye drops, twice per day. That got the pressure and her pain down to normal. Now se is on a maintenance of two rather expensive drops in the morning and the same two in the evening. Her other eye seems to work OK. She is pretty much deaf. We have to clap our hands hard to get her attention. Her eye looks normal now, but the vet said the damage to the retina is permanent. When she is walking over to the hall to go go to the utility room where the doggy door is she walks to the wall and stays along the wall as a guide. She has no issues outside, and finding her way back inside.

She still like to play with Reuben, and this morning as I got out of bed, she came running over to me to get scratches. Reuben rolls over and like belly rubs. She ran around in happy mood. Reuben is normally a very happy boy. If I say anything to him his tail wags. He spins in circles as I exit the kitchen after making my coffee and heading to the laundry room where we keep the dog food, and he is always 100% ready to eat.

I have two Siberian Huskies.... They kill every animal they can catch in our yard. They have killed possum, woodchucks, squirrels, cats, birds and unfortunately for them a skunk.

We have an undergound fence system and they typically live outside all day long. At night we let them come in to sleep in cages in our garage. Some nights they won't come when called and this always means they are sitting under a tree awaiting a varmint to come down to meet it's fate.

It is nearly impossible to get them to leave the tree even for food. I have tried shooting said varmint from tree but then when it falls the dogs still pounce on it then play keep away with it from me.

One of my former coworkers had a Huskie. One winter we had a 8 inch snow storm. Her huskie just laid down in the snow and let it cover him in more snow. One of her neighbors called the animal welfare department on her. The officer came out, saw it was a huskie, and refused to come inside. He was just happy to be in the snow. He saw the dog was well fed and had a bed on the floor next to her bed.

No pythons here fortunately. We do have the "right angle snake"! We heard Reuben frantically barking a lot (more than normal) so we went to investigate. He was barking on the back porch, so my wife was looking around on the ground. She finialy looked up and that was just a foot from her face. It had crawled up the mortar between the bricks.

We locked the dogs inside, and we went inside and it left in short order. I think it was a king snake, so it was a good thing to have in the neighborhood.

Reuben is convinced there is some critter under the storage building hiding out during the day. Maybe one more possum, or another bunny. I wish they would find another place to nest. We still have lots of room in the train station, but I would prefer they live their lives somewhere else.

Pretty much every snake is a good snake to have around. I would prefer to NOT have any venomous snakes. We haven't seen any rattlesnakes or water moccasin on our property which I'm happy about. We have had copperheads, which, if I have to have a venomous snake, copperhead is No2 on my list (No1 would be coral snake). We have performed maintenance to make our property less inviting to the copperheads and that seems to have helped.

Pretty much every other snake is a good snake. There are a lot of snakes that will eat other snakes that they run into (assuming they are bigger/win), and many/most will eat pests (mice, rats, etc... that are small enough).

We moved from Seattle to Castle Rock CO in the early 2000s for a year. There are basically no poisonous snakes or bugs in Seattle. The odd brown recluse spider being the exception. Within a couple of weeks of living in CO we encountered rattle snakes, tarantulas and a bunch of black widow spiders in the basement the bug guy had to come take care of. It was quite the wake up call. My older cat, who hadn't hunted anything in years started coming home with 1-2 dead critters he proudly laid out in the garage daily.

One of my dad's former co-pilots retired and bought the old family farm in Texas. The farm house had not been occupied for several years. He fixed up place to make his wife happy.

One his first morning there he brought a cup of coffee out to the porch and look at the property. There was a coiled up rattle snake. He got his pistol, and dispatched the rattler.

One his second morning there he brought a cup of coffee out to the porch and look at the property. There was a coiled up rattle snake. He got his pistol, and dispatched the rattler.

One his third morning there he brought a cup of coffee out to the porch and look at the property. There was a coiled up rattle snake. He got his pistol, and dispatched the rattler. He was beginning to think it was the Twilight Zone. He did call a snake disposal company. They looked under the house and found almost 100 rattlers. He said he wondered why there were no mice or mouse damage anywhere.

They found more in the barn. Most were very young rattlers. He spent a lot to get rid of them all.

The house we bought in Colorado was the only time I purchased a new home. It was in a nice development called "Diamond Back Ridge". I paid no attention to the name. I assumed it just a fancy name for a nice development of large homes that were $600,000 back in 2001. After seeing several rattle snakes, we asked one of the neighbors about it. He looked at me like I was an idiot. He just said, "you do realize the neighborhood is called Diamond Back Ridge for a reason", oops. I watched my labrador and kids much closer after that.

We heard from a guy in the neighborhood that also has surveillance security cameras outside of his house. He had been alerted to an animal, and looked at it was a sub-adult possum. Moments later he saw a owl swoop down and fly off with it. So this is not a good neighborhood to raise possums.

We are hoping that was the last of the litter, and Reuben is not interested in the storage building today. We know he smells a critter when he circles the storage building with his tail up high, and wagging. He can circle the building for an hour, give up, and come inside to tank on water, rest and cool off, them back to the battle to keep his back yard safe of all vermin.
