Are the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 the competitors of the Michelin PS 4S?
I know that I often see one of the Continental tires that's the Canon/Camaro to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Nikon/Mustang.
Based on the specs, I'm assuming it's the Contact Sport 2. I have liked the performance of the Mich PS 4S, but wanted to give the Continentals a try, and my rears are worn enough to warrant a replacement if I'm going to keep driving in the rain.

I have the ExtremeContact DWS 06+ on my RX8, son’s C6, and other son’s SL55. I’ve had PS4s in the past, and while they are great tires they also aren’t better tires.

Extreme DWS on the Mustang...good all season tires...no real pushing thing review from me...but found them better than the original tires.

I don’t think I can point to a difference between brands but there’s huge differences between models.
The tires I have now are my all time favorites: re71rs. Extremely hard turn in. Extreme response. Shocking how good they are to drive. And lots cheaper too. |

The last set I bought (many years ago) were DWS. S for snow. Had them on my 80 SC and, got to use them in snow. That was pretty darn fun.
Steve? I suspect in Texas you will not be needing the S tires. No idea of current Conti's. I really did like the DWS however. I have some crappy Dunlaps or something on my Boxster now. If I drove the car daily, Conti's would be in the running. |

The DWS 06+ are all-season tires with 560 treadwear. I'm sure they are good, but it seems like they'd be a bit of a step down from a 300 treadwear max perf summer tire like the Pilot Sport 4S (which is different from the Pilot Sport All Season 4).

Yes, like the Canon/Nikon or Mustang/Camaro stuff. Always neck in neck with very small differences. I've enjoyed the Michelins, but am curious to try the Continentals. Although, it may depend upon the price of both at the local place. If the cost is radically higher for one, then I will probably go with the less expensive model. If the cost is close, then I'll go for the Contis.

I'd love to go with something like that, but I daily drive this, and hydroplane resistance is one of the key factors. I have to think that the minimal tread, 200-ish treadwear models from Bridgestone, Michelin, or Continental would suck in a torrential downpour.

I ran Pilot in two of my cars for years. Great tires, then I became a cheap skate and decided to try Toyo summer performance tires due to a friend's discount and connection with Toyo. I am so happy with the Toyos that I decided to install them on all my cars. Took them to the track and they performed flawlessly compared to the Michelins. Maybe, just maybe they fall short by some very, very percentage at 10/10, not that I can really tell but other's on the track with their street tires seems to think so. So at the end of the day, just you you mentioned, Steve, Cannon or Nikon, or Milwaukee or DeWalt. For aggressive street or hard canyon carving, I can't tell the difference Yet, my bank account is a couple bucks fuller.

It looks like I need to consider the Kumhos. I had a set on my old miata, probably 20 years ago, because the miata crowd loved them. That set sucked compared to the Toyos that I'd been running, so I ditched them before i wore them out.
They've had good ratings for many years. I may be willing to give them a shot again. But you can see why I'm curious about the Continentals.

This for the Cayman? Sometimes you get those crazy rain in TX, maybe all season is the way to go? I read they are actually not as good as summer tires in heavy rain? I found all summer tires suck in the wet. I spin them in my Cayman fairly easily if I don't watch my foot input on the right pedal

When I consider tires, I always ask myself how hard will I be on these tires? On the Porsches, it has to have some great grip because I know I can't control myself when the streets start to get crooked and how hard will I push it? Bought a Lexus IS 250 for my younger boy off a friend. It needs tires, and its on its second set of Bridgestones with 60,000 on the engine. This car handles well, just like a sports touring car should. But for him driving, Sports touring tires are going on it unless I come across a smoking deal for a set of summer performance tires. Going off to college in Santa Barbara, so no rain or snow to deal with.

I think I used to run Proxes T1S or something like that, but I'm sure they don't even make them any more. They had soft sidewalls so a comfy ride. The turn in wasn't super crisp, but the grip was always there, and once you got used to the turn in it wasn't a problem.
