2009 VW Rabbit Ignition Switch Problem
Here is one for the Brain Trust: Lois Lane's tumbler/ignition switch recently became difficult to turn. Particularly when the engine is on and it is time to rotate the key counter-clockwise to turn the engine off and remove the key.
AFAIK, this mechanism has two main parts: The key tumbler section, and then the ignition switch which (on our G-bodied 911s) is located at the other end of the tumbler. Any guesses as to why the key is binding and how to address it. I hope it is the ignition switch as that is likely to be less expensive than a tumbler replacement. I have graphite powder for locks and of course silicon spray but those may be a bad idea. Your advice please.

No clue on the fix...but for a cause? How much weight on her key chain? The more weight, the more wear on the switch.

^ I will echo this. My daughter's key chain full of crap ruined the ignition in our 1992 5.0 Mustang. you could take the key out and it still ran.
Ended up needing to replace everything, was a pain in the rear and I bet your new VW is worse. On a side note, good to see you here Supe. |

Only the weight of the key itself. We know about that weight problem. I tell people about that but I don't think they listen.
I looked a replacement part costs and they are not silly like Porsche parts. I do hope to hear from someone who has experience with this or at least a better guess than I have.
