Reviving Trashed Extension Cord
Helped a friend move. Lots of trips to dump.
Had a damaged extension cord. Shield torn on female end but its 12g, sorta nice. I coild use a short but not awful extension cord. Open it up, cut back before the shielding and screwed it into female fitting. An im like: whys the copper black? I guess water and copper and pvc react and the copper is coated with an insulator. Damn. Cut back 3 feet. Still black. Threw it in the trash. Next day i needed an extension cord, a short light one… Cut 3 more feet. 2 feet… hey its not so black. 2 more feet aha its shiny now. The water wicked 10feet up iinto each insulated wire. Is a thing i never knew i needed to worry about, and it only matters under load.
