Spokane Fires

It's been an interesting and anxiety ridden couple of days. All 3 of our kids that live in Spokane were evacuated to our place Saturday. The fires, which are still active, surrounded them. They all live within a few miles of each other as the crow flies. Saturday we had 6 extra adults, 3 grandkids, 6 more dogs and 2 additional cats staying with us. We pulled the travel trailer out to have enough beds for everyone.

My son just moved into his new place the day before. His neighborhood was hit the worst. He's now heading up the national guard response locally.

Luckily all of their homes survived. We are very thankful.

Looks all to reminiscent of what we had happen down here in So Cal a year or so ago.
Glad the family had some place safe to escape to and that their houses survived.

Wild fire is the one thing that scares me.

Poor forest management and bad leadership in all 3 of the west coast states...to say more would send this to PARF.

I've been watching those fires - I used to have several friends up there that I've lost touch with. I hope they and everybody else are all OK.

In case it's helpful: Google Maps has a layer for wildfires that you can turn on to see both fires and smoke plumes near you.

Jerry, I am so glad to hear that you and yours are o.k. You were one of the first guys I thought of when I saw the reporting on these fires.

I have a nephew, his wife and son, and a niece with her husband in Spokane as well. And one of my oldest friends lives in Deer Park. All are safe and sound, none got evacuated this time... My niece and her husband got evacuated a few years ago, the last time wildfires came through the area. Scary, scary stuff. So glad to hear that you are o.k.

Maybe it’s just a familiarity thing but I’ll take a tornado over a forest fire all day long. A big tornado will destroy about a mile long swath, and you can hide in your basement. A forest fire destroys everything, comes without warning, and there’s no hiding from it.

Aw crap. It is smokey here today. Just left a large family reunion. Two of the people there JUST bought a new home in the 'burbs of Spokane. Yikes. I hope it is ok. They have not even moved in yet.

A real tragedy, as the winters get warmer the fire season has begun to start earlier and lasting longer. I can’t remember a worse season, people on the west side of the cascades need to realize it could happen here. Stay safe and keep us informed about what is happening.

Looks like they have arrested someone for potentially starting the original of the main Three fires threatening spokane.

Two of our kids with their families are still with us. There is another fire to the north of them that they are afraid may move South towards their houses. They are still evacuated and can't get home.

Glad to hear your family is OK. This is unbelievably tragic. I saw on the news that smaller wildfires are fairly common there, but never in developed areas.
