Anyone using a TPMS bypass?

Does anyone have any experience with the OBD bypass tool for the TPMS system?

I just talked to my tire guy. They want $100 EACH for TPMS sensors. I have an air compressor right beside my car. I keep the tires at optimum pressure all the time. I don't need this stupid light. The warning light is driving me nuts, and I'd like to get rid of it for less than $400.

I'm afraid my options are:

Put a piece of tape over the light.
Get a TPMS bypass thing to plug into the OBD port.
Pay $400 to not have to look at the light again.

The A premium ones from Amazon are $45 and work fine in my Cayenne. Make sure you get ones correctly preprogramed for your car. Find a cooperative tire shop-they just need to break the bead to install, not dismount and rebalance. Lots of shops have a "code" that is stupid expensive.

True story-recently had 4 trailer tires dismounted/mounted. First local shop looked at their computer-280 bucks! My NTW is my go to, the manager there did them for 20 bucks per, and no disposal fee.

When I got new tires on my Cayenne at Discount Tire I paid $21 each for new TPMS sensors.

I got the tires and TPMS sensors today. It turns out the guy who gave me the estimate gave me the price to dismount a tire, replace the sensor and remount the tire. Since I was getting new tires, they were $49 each, not $100.
I may have been able to get a better price elsewhere, but I wanted to go with a local place and develop a relationship with them. I like to stay on the good side of my tire store and the local NAPA store.
So:
4 Michelin 215/50R17XL Cross Climate 2 tires
4 TPMS sensors
alignment
Sales tax
Ohio tire tax
tires disposal fee
$1268.80.

Nice! That's not bad for them to order and install the sensors.

I have a small local place ~4mi west and a bigger place ~10mi east. I've used both. We recently needed all 4 tires and TPMS sensors for both cars. I wanted to use the little closest place. I've had them install a couple of tires and they've had good prices and done a good job of installation. They said that they couldn't get (and even if I brought the sensors) or install the sensors on the boxster. And they wanted $100 each for the sensors on my wife's Outback.

I called the other place, and they also said that they couldn't do the sensors on the Boxster. They had decent prices on the tires and sensors for my wifes car, but couldn't get the tires that I wanted, so I ordered the tires from TireRack. They charged $350 for 4 sensors, and to mount and balance the 4 tires that I brought from TireRack. The guy asked why I didn't buy the tires from them, and I told him "you said that you couldn't get them from any of your warehouses." When I ordered from TR, they came from Minnesota (most of my past orders have shipped out of Louisiana). After they installation the guy said "2 of the tires were date stamped 2024. I think maybe these are old and being discontinued, and maybe that's why we couldn't get them. Those guys have always been good in the past, so I'll continue to use them.

I ended up going to the top Porsche Indie shop in Houston for the boxster. They installed Porsche TPMS sensors which was $$$, but then I've seen tons of chatter on the various boxster groups about folks having constant issues with aftermarket. If these OEM last as long as the originals, then the cost won't be a big deal averaged over time.

We can program it out of Porsches, not a bypass, like it is not there. Other makes? Never tried a "Bypass"

I have a bypass I use ever since the batteries in my font sensors died. My system? I just ignore that little yellow light.

They sell after market kits that replace your valve stem caps and work thru blue tooth to a dash mounted screen.
I have a set that I was going to add to the 98 Prelude...never did it.

These things are a godsend for trailering. 40 bucks on amazon, programable pressures (and temp) alerts for each tire. A flat on a trailer with horses aboard is a major hassle, nice to keep ahead of low pressure/high stress blowout risk.

That's where (amazon) I bought mine also. The only reason I didn't install it was that the display just wouldn't fit anywhere on my dash and it was bigger than expected.

My wife's 2017 Macan's tires had tread left, but the tires were hard and noisy as heck after 7 years. We when to Discount Tire, and told them to change the TPMS sensors while they were in there. They tried some cheaper brand and the Macan did not like them at all. Constant error messages and we brought it back. They put in a better TPMS sensor and all is well now. They did not charge us for the new sensors as we had paid for the other sensors.

Did your car have something that told you the pressure on each tire or did it just say "a tire has an issue". I would have thought that a ZL1 would have the "pressure per tire" system. I LOVE being able to monitor my tire pressure without having to manually use a gauge.

We just bought all new tires and all new TPMS sensors for both cars.

My Porsche Indie used Porsche sensors in my boxster. I've heard that "Huf" is a good brand and the OEM for Porsche and work well. But I've also heard about folks having problems with aftermarket. The price tag for the Porsche parts stung, but if this batch lasts 18 years (or even 10) like the original set, it's not that big an expense.

It's great to be able to see the pressure on all 4 tires in real time any time the car is running. If I switched to an older car, I'd want a similar system if I could find a good one.

I like having the system, although my niece doesn't seem to get it. The light came on and she just kept driving till the tire was destroyed. It is also funny that many don't know it will come on with high tire pressure also. Quite a few came to my friend's shop with 50-60 psi on when the summer heat comes and tire pressures go up with temp. They though it was low and kept adding air, and came to the shop when the light wouldn't go out. Bringing them back to correct pressure took care of them.
I just ordered a set of 4 for my 2016 Lexus for $170. Installing is a bit of work but not too bad. I will have to borrow a TPMS tool to update, but I did it many times for my friend at his shop before he retired. The American cars were easy, push a couple buttons on the dash and let some air out till it beeps, then move to the next one.

It tells you both. As in, there's the fat-woman-sitting-on-a-mat dash light, and the exact PSI at each wheel can be displayed.

I use a piece of black tape come wintertime. Walk around car once a eeek to look at the tires.
