Anchor Steam draft.

Absolutely the best beer I ever drank. The bottled version is good, but if you can find Anchor Steam on tap it's pure magic.

Try to find a place that sells a lot of it. Like all draft beers, you don't want the keg sitting around for weeks tapped only occaisionally.

I'll admit it, 90% of the time I drink beer it's to get hammered, ever since I started going to college a year ago it seems like the trend is to pound lotsa beer to get drunk if you're guy and make girly mix drinks if you're a girl to get outta shape. With that said, if I'm drinking to get buzzed or hammered I'll slam just about everything (including disgusting domestic beers that taste like water) like Bud Light, MGD, Coors, Coors light.....

But, last year when I flew to Germany on Lufthansa I had some of their "bottled for Lufthansa" Warsteiner and it was so good, made the trip interesting too.

Coronas are good too, but only if they are absolutely freezing cold and you must have a lime in the neck to make it perfect.

Alcohol, when mixed with a little altitude, can have markedly different effects to what you'd normally expect on some people. It doesn't affect me much, but my girlfriend and I drank a few glasses of wine on a flight to Hawaii and she soon got very light-headed and fell asleep.

Much quicker than usual, too

Best beer I ever had? 5 days aboard a small 57' sailing vessel. From Puerto Rico, headed North. No showers, no fridge of any kind. We pulled into the South Caicos...found a small store, with beer on ice. Don't know if it was the best beer I ever had, but it was worth the $2 I spent for it... "Best" beer? Probably the one given to me gratis, after helping to haul a bull elk out of a steep canyon. Again, not much memory of the brand...it was the occasion.

I highly recommend Aventinus - German Weiss beer.

Trust me, you'll love it.

A close second in Rodenbach. However, at $64 a case for 8oz. bottles...

Uhgg, Bill, don't mention Castle Lager in the same breath as real beer . Seriously, though, it's too bitter for my taste, and gives me a headache after the first one.......

Are you ex-SA, or just been here to visit?

I just have a hard time putting fruit in beer.
Kinda like a V8 in a 911, but hey, if it works for you... I say go for it.

Sarah, I forgot to mention Stroh's (or "shorts" when read backwards), seemed to be the only beer besides MGD that I liked in Minnesota. Funny thing I remember when hunting in MN, we'd leave the beer outside to stay cold. For someone from South Africa this was unheard of, here we need a fridge even in winter. Do they still make Stroh's?

LeRoux - That is a good question. There used to be a Stroh's Brewery Co. in St. Paul, Minnesota...but I think it has been closed for a while. As far as it being made other places I'm not sure.

Leaving the beer outside in a tub during the winter at parties is a pretty common thing in MN.

What were you in Minnesota for? (just curious).

One of my sisters & her husband like to have "international beer" parties. On your party invite is the name of a country that you have to bring beer from. It is really fun but there is always way too much beer.

If you like Duval, find some PranQster from North Coast Brewing, CA. No need to go to Belgium after you taste PranQster!
