B52 final picture

Apparently the B52 only flew a couple of times. Here is its final picture. There is also a video on the website.

It is kind of sad to see that much work and effort go up in flames. I wonder if you can insure that kind of thing?

I read where the plane cost an estimated L30,000. It had 8 jet engines along with dozens of servos, backup battery packs and redundant recievers.

No one really knows why it crashed. It looks like the pilot made a nice turn and then lost control on the second turn. He had some sponsors which helped defray the costs.

24 hours later and I STILL can't see the waterfall! I hate these things...

mikes72t 01-25-2005 02:51 PM

My friend who is big into model planes said that the B52 was rated for a 30% turn and his last turn was closer to 45%, it just stalled, no more lift.

Oops

Similar real life incident at Fairchild AFB a few years ago, with the same result, except all aboard died. Reminds us all what a dangerous business flying, and especially military flying, is. Have to admit, best job in the AF, but also one of the most dangerous. Have to admire those guys.

True Rob, but that a$$ was lucky not to have killed himself a long time before that incident, a shame he took the whole crew w/ him.

Doozer, where is that fountain?

VaSteve 01-26-2005 04:35 AM

Here's one for you:

"Photos can be deceiving.
An incredible picture taken by a German aviation photographer.

A Lufthansa 747-400 and a United 757-200 are on a simultaneous landing

approach on the parallel runways 28L and 28R at SFO.

Real runway separation is only 225 meters.

Due to the telephoto distortion, the Jumbo 747 being 3 times larger
than
the 757 and being behind it, gives us this fantastic optical illusion
seeming
to fly so near together...ostensibly inches from each other!"
