You won't believe me....

The Blue Hole
Santa Rosa, NM. 81 ft deep, about 80ft across on top 130ft across at the bottom. Spring fed so it is clear blue 61* water. Pretty cool diving really

Locals around those parts tell of underground rivers that run from central/eastern NM all the way to the rio grande along the pecos river.
There are small lakes, ponds, and rivers that show up and dissapear, and rumors of people drowning and showing up in a lake hundreds of miles away that is thought to be not connected.

Lots O'bottomless lakes and such. My dad was born and raised in the Artesia/Roswell area.

I think that's the same steel mill that we shot the ending to Terminator 2. Wasn't it dismantled and shipped to China?

Velcro...

Exactly. The steel production stuff went to china - the fabrication is still done in Fontana. Pollution rules terminated steel production in So Cal.

Random - steel $$ helped buy this for my bro in 1970.

That wouldn't surprise me. It looks like the water table is high there, the whole time I was out there, I noticed one of the potholes just seemed to be bubbling water. Lots of spring fed water sources. I know there is a lake near Santa Rosa that they do Tech dives to 280+ft deep.

Actually the costs of upgrades and the associated pollution control devices made it cost prohibitive. The old mills were granfathered with the old process.

They could have purchased pollution credits but found it cheaper to buy foreign steel.

CARROLL SHELBY GOES MID-ENGINE | THE COOPER “KING COBRA” YEARS « The Selvedge Yard
Quote:
So he headed off to Europe and came back with two engine-less Cooper Monacos– and set out to retrofit the very capable racers with his signature formula of good ol’ fashioned Texas testosterone. His crew had just one month, a welder, and a pile of old Cobra parts to turn the Coopers into Shelby’s new lean & mean King Cobra. Get ‘er done.

Having an American V8 in a mid-engine sports prototype wasn't a new idea in 1963, however the King Cobra was one of the first to utilize this concept. Much like the Shelby Cobra, it used a British chassis with a American V8, specifically a modified Cooper Type 61 Monaco chassis and the Ford 289 V8...............

the chase scene on the way to that steel mill was filmed on the terminal island freeway, and I watched part of it from the refinery I used to work at. The TI freeway runs right through it.

Lots o'films been shot there: air america, back to the future part III, fast and furious, etc:
