I'd like to see the machine that rolled the beam to that shape.
Looks like its a built up section, though I have seen some equipment in Ambridge and Youngstown that could bend it..

Anyway it appears like it made in sections and butt welded together...

Lots of people ask that and few know the answer. One theory is that it acts as a reverse cone to tune the scavenging effect of the exhaust into the desired rpm range.

That's what I have always believed.

They are commonly referred to as "cookie cutters". Not to be confused with the wheels, of course.

i figured its probrobly to keep the velocity consistent as it exits the pipe and reduce the effects off the windstorm behind the car at 200mph

We went through a Genny Cream phase at my fraternity in the 70's, and I can see how Genny Screamers fits. We referred to the next day's results as the Genesee Cream Puffs.

A much better beer...

They were made to estimate the combustion. The sides of the exhaust tube can not be used because the color can be modified by outside factors such as temperature differences, water or dirt projections, whereas the tube in the middle is really in the middle of the flow and is therefore a valid representation of the exhaust gas.
