By today's standards, yes.
But at the time, it was doing a few things that no other plane could do.

The B-36 was the first bomber designed to internally carry any nuclear weapon selected from the U.S. at the time. It was also the first manned bomber with an unrefueled intercontinental range.

Additionally, its huge wings and six 28-cylinder engines put it out of range of all fighters and interceptors of the day, as well as AAA.

Finally, the B36 had a higher payload capacity than either the B52 or the B2.
