Actually you were right for the first picture.
That's the virgin river gorge. Part of it is in southern Utah but most of it is in arid-zona.
I love that country. Gonna retire in St. George.
The second pic is in Zion natl park I believe.

Was it the Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon.
