Me and Dan
On a road trip from LA to Little Rock, I met a guy at a dusty old filling station somewhere on I-40 past Needles. He noticed me looking at him and his well autographed guitar, and he asked me if I played. When I said I did, he asked me to play him a song. I did, and when I finished he asked me to sign it too. He literally called himself a hobo. Said he'd fallen on hard times about 5 years ago, and since he was about to be living on the streets, he bought a decent backpack/frame, sleeping bag etc. He went on to say he had always wanted to see the country, and if he was going to be on the streets, he'd might as well travel. He was quite a nice fellow, and he never asked me for a thing. Felt like the ghost of Woodie Guthrie - or Tom Joad

^ I have always loved guitars/ stories like that. Ones that are not necessarily special or rare, but ones with soul.
Something similar happened to me in Asheville NC. I espressed interest in his parlor guitar and suddenly I was handed it and expected to perform! I would have been slightly intimidated to play it. What song did you play?  gratuitous pic of guitar I made from a pine shelf from my dad's garage.

First thing to come to mind was That's The Way That The World Goes Round by John Prine. It's easy, and it just seemed to fit. And we both got a good chuckle over it.
The guitar was a nice old Alvarez - he said 35 years+  "I know a guy he's got a lot to loose He's a pretty nice fella, kinda confused Got muscles in his head, aint never been used Thinks he owns half of this town" Not sure if it was about him or me...

I fell into a great deal on a 2017 Willy's Wheeler edition Jeep. Guy paid $33K but couldn't keep it; I got it for $25K with 7000 miles on it. My oldest was looking for a 4WD, so she bought it off me. Everyone was happy.
Shipping would be $860, which isn't that bad, but I couldn't escape the pull of a road trip. It had probably been 20 years since I drove across the country, and I'm not getting any younger, so what the hey!       It's nice to know these places survived from my childhood. Maybe a new name and different tchotchkes, but they're still there.
