[QUOTE=svandamme;10324378]I don't deny that they are the best at what they do in the US, but on the other hand, they have no competition either. It's the only unit that is dedicated for that specific job.
The have a monopoly.

If you ask me , they are kinda over doing it in that sense.. the how they do it is taking imho to much attention over what they are doing.

Just the way they speak to the crowd, with that voice they use.. it's acting really.
Nobody who stands on guard at a military memorial should be so busy with performance that they all try to speak in a uniform way.
If I were appointed commander (obviously never going to happen)
I'de want them to tone it down a notch, talk normal, as they would if they were on guard at any regular military location,
assertive, yes, commanding, yes, loud enough yes,
but whatever voice they have would be the voice they use. And if one of them has a less then booming voice, so be it.

IMHO, There is to much form over function.

But that's the American way.. Y'all are well into show business.
Compare a US Football match vs a Europ Football match.. The difference is obvious.
Same function, grown men running around with a ball
Completely different production values.

In recent years our football has seen a bit more show, especially at the World Cup
But the most basic Professional American Football game will have more show then any of the World cup matches.

And a lot of nationalism added as well
National Anthem singing by diva singers(often with mixed results)
American flags
Fighter jets doing fly by's

You'll be hard pressed to find that in Europe for any non International soccer game.

To be honest, the only ones in Europe I know that are as chauvenistic, are the French...Which is a comparison a lot "we got freedom fries now", won't like.

Golly gosh, of only the USA could become more European....

In seeing how the French police have handled the mass murders have that have become more frequent; I am proud of the French police. They stand out in Europe. Very brave, and they execute the right ideas even if personally difficult.

I no longer make white flag jokes related to the French anymore.

Now they just need their politicians to start acting wiser and preserve their culture and nation as the unique bastion it is.

Seems like everyone wants to tell America what it should do. Reminds me of busy body neighbors and unsolicited advice from a MIL.

Dat's okay Stijn...we all know you Urpeens are much smarter and more sophisticated than we in the colonies. You seem to often feel the need to remind us of that...keep up the good work.

Oh well, at least i'm not so sensitive about it if people have comments about Europe or Belgium, there's nothing you can say that we haven't said ourselves about it..
I really don't rate things in black & white, and I really don't go around boasting that Belgium is #1 or even Europe is better then the US.

They are different and somethings are better in the US vs some other things better in Europe.
some other things are probably better in neither, and Asia or Africa has us both beat.

this inability to take even the slightest bit of feedback, it really comes across as lack of self confidence to me.

How did the cop not see them, but even more importantly, how did they not notice the car coming?

In the last 100 years has anyone ever claimed Belgium is number one? They did have a couple of colonies in the past. Nothing even remotely like Great Brittan. Belgium did belong to the Axis.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collaboration_with_the_Axis_Powers

They do have a lot of good things, and I would love to come see Belgium and see the vast grave yards of the Americans that died to make Europe free of the Axis and Hitler.

I can't imagine any crowd proclaiming Belgium as a world superpower. We pay trillions of dollars in taxes to keep your country free, and likely the USA pays more for the protection of Europe free than Belgium. I have not looked up the defense spending so it is just a feeling, Belgium is likely not in the top 10 for defense spending on of your own country and Europe with NATO. So yea, we are number one, is sending our tax dollars to keep you free from Russia.
