My wife has a friend named Summer. She married a guy named Plummer. So now she's Summer Plummer. If I was her I wouldn't have changed my name.

My first computer was an Apple IIe with 128K of RAM. It had DUAL floppy drives. The first computer I ever used was a Commodore Pet with 8K, and a cassette tape drive. That thing was slooooooooow.

In 1989 2MB was more than most software knew how to use. Remember that was before Windows was usable.

chapstic2001, that is classic!

How about the GE225 I was programming in 1967?
300 card per minute card reader, 4096 words of core memory, card punch, 900 lines/minute printer, optional disk drive 34.5 megabytes (5 feet high by 3feet deep by 5 feet wide box). Tape drives for data sorting and storage.
Programming in Cobol or assembler.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1096539241.jpg

As a graphic artist, I have always used Macs, About two years ago our company got cheap and rather than give us all G4s they gave us PC's with the PC versions of Photochop, Ills, and Quark. They suck! A lot of other artists just left and went somewhere else to ply their trade. I still have a Mac Classic, 5in screen, 1 meg of memory, and all programs on floppy disc, on my desk just to piss off the IT guys. They REALLY hate Macs.

Imagine how few IT guys would have work if we all used Macs!

My first machine was a Commodre 64, had a tape drive and the floppy. Back then you could use a boom box w/ high speed tape dubbing to copy games. Amazing.

If it wasn't for the touchpad, my laptop would be a mac. I don't get along well w/ it. I loooove the IBM nipple. Why can't apple just add that to the keyboard???

cstreit 09-30-2004 07:36 AM

I still have my Commodore 64! Sold the disk drive years ago, but I still have the tape drive. :)

After realizing that the programming language was chaotic and nearly impossible to program anything decent, I played a lot of games on it.

Had a 150BPS modem too... Early hacker days!

Really, I don't HATE Macs. . .
My wife is a school teacher, and occasionally she needs my help on her Mac. I don't mind the fact that there is not 'right click' for context sensitive pop-up menus, but everytime I use her Mac, I just feel so dirty -- need to wash hands...

Ah yes, what the world would be like if everyone were Mac people.
  • What we call 'IT' would be a bunch of metro-sexuals arguing about what shade of lavender the desktop really should be.
  • The System V/BSD debate would be replaced with something like "Purple iMacs - the new black?"
