I don't think he directed or produced the movie. It wasn't a blockbuster. I think you missed the point of the book.. try reading it again.

I think you are the one missing the point. The book and the movie are two completely different entities. The book is a good read, essential HST - really one of his only three "Must Read" books along with FaLiLV and Rum Diary. The movie is terrible. Actually, I think Bill Murray does a decent job of transcribing Thompson to the screen... but if you think that WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM is a good movie, then I think you are missing the point.

I don’t like Hunter S. Thompson as a person. He’s probably the greatest writer in the world. When he was with us on a run, we was going to fight the cops one day and he locked himself in the trunk of his car. That guy ain’t my friend. He’s not going to help me; he’s going to run and leave me there when he’s supposed to help us. He also didn’t take care of what he was supposed to do. All we told him was buy us a keg of beer and he didn’t do it. He’s offered to do it later but we don’t want it now. He didn’t do it when he was supposed to.

He got beat up by us, but he set that up. After the book was all done he come around us and said can I go on a run with ya. He got in an argument with a guy, he caused a fight, he got beat up and the cover of the book said "I met. I lived with and I was almost killed by…" what a guy. I’m glad I didn’t have to do that for the cover of my book.

Well, the version that HST tells is that these guys are so obsessed with Harleys that anything else is just a pu**y bike. At the time, I believe, Hunter was riding a Vincent Black Shadow, and got into an argument about whose bike was faster (The Vincent, obviously). I believe I read this in the FEAR AND LOATHING biography, but I might be wrong. I never read the HELL'S ANGELS book... personally, I would take both Hunter and Sonny's stories with a grain of salt.

Jason Porter 10-15-2004 06:21 AM

I want to know too.

cegerer 10-15-2004 08:11 AM

Did some searching and it looks like these scud balloons were custom made for some sort of advertising company.

Not sure if its real, but it looks real enough. Crazy things happen out there in the deep blue sea.
