It's not hockey. It is on ice entertainment by two willing combatants. And it will never be removed from the game because the owners think/know that their paying customers enjoy it.

The problem I find with going to a pro hockey game these days has nothing to do with fighting. I am a hockey junky. At 43 I still play on and over 40 team plus I play pickup now on Sunday mornings. I am also the assistant coach of the number 13 ranked Squirt Major team in the country (USA). My family had Flyers season tickets from 1968 until 2003. My dad and I went down to a game earlier this season like we used to for decades. The atmosphere is that of a carnival with the games and fireworks and flashing signs and lights. The TV time outs that are accompanied by the games on the jumbotron for fans to be occupied, oh yea and sometimes there is a hockey game going on too. The ticket prices are a JOKE and I would rather watch at home these days.

By the way here is a random picture of the latest Easton Skate which is really sweet. I am an old school CCM guy but this boot is awesome.
