14s with tall sidewalls were called a "Comfort Package"....same on 911s of the era.

That sure is the comfort package. The taller sidewall makes a massive difference if you're just street driving.

I seem to remember the tire pressure recomendation was like 30 psi. Thing prolly rode like a Lincoln......what a waste of space.

You're right, they were 14" wheels with 185x14 Michelin XAS. My rationale for choosing them was a little more low end since at the time I liked to get up to speed in a hurry. I've since mellowed a bit.
