More Sedona - Chael of the Holy Cross
The Chapel of the Holy Cross was a place I really wanted to see - its architecture is classic cathedral meets Southwest mid-century modern.

Road Trip Continued - Sedona to Red Rocks (Morrison CO)
Final time in Sedona
Shopping Mall - Sedona Style! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564084101.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564084101.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564084101.JPG Creekside http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564084101.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564084101.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564084101.JPG And early to bed for tomorrow's drive! |
Regretfully, we needed to leave Sedona after just two day and two nights, and I totally blew the drive time for the next leg of the trip. Going from memory only (I should no longer do that...) I thought it was only 7-8 hours. Turned out that best case with no stopping it was 11 hours, and we had concert tickets for 7:30pm. Do up at 4, on the road just before 5, and we made it to Red Rocks with enough time to shower and get ready for the concert.
AZ Hwy 89 northbound out of Flagstaff http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564087492.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564087492.JPG AZ/Utah Highway 160. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564087492.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564087492.JPG Moab and Arches National Park (I actually got to be a passenger for a couple of hours and take some photos!) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564087492.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564087492.JPG Somebody actually carved a 5000 sq ft home in that rock - at least that's what the internet told us - we had no time to stop! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564087492.JPG The snow peaked mountains of Vale, CO. I wish I could have captured the awesome scenery of the Colorado River we followed through a canyon for about an hour, but I was driving and my copilot was sleeping. Next time! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564087492.JPG We made it to our hotel in Morrison, CO (very close to Red Rocks) just in time! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564090669.jpg 690 miles in exactly 690 minutes - 11.5 hours. We stopped 5 times for coffee/gas/restroom/food/cigar breaks. PS - thank you Utah for 80mph speed limits. Since I often drive 10 over, and since there was zero traffic, and since I had new tires and brakes, well... a fair chunk of it might have been at 90ish... |
Just before dark I cruised just up the street towards the Coast Guard Station and got a few pics of some I.C.W. activities.
There's a Manatee in that one pic if you look for the shadow. He just had his snout up taking in oxygen before I could get a photo. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564101312.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564101312.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564101312.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564101312.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564101312.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564101312.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564101312.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564101312.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564101312.JPG |

Reminds me of an old western movie with a musical theme staring Clint Eastwood, Lee Marvin, and a cast of others. Paint Your Wagon. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1WuLtOQ0BCk" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> ... and for a random picture: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564257219.jpg |
Lots of good stuff on this thread. Dave - thanks for posting your road trip pics. Very, very cool.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564278577.jpg Worm's eye view of the Porsche/March Indycar 89P on display at PECATL. Sometimes you have to change your point of view. I slithered on the floor with my camera to get the right sight line and reflection shot. Perhaps a bit undignified, but effective. A security guard watched nearby, either curious or baffled or both. Must have been more curious because he asked to see the photo preview on my digital camera. Apparently he liked what he saw and commented how different it looked from human eye level. Yep - he nailed it. |

Over to the park to see Los Lobos and The Mavericks. Once again the clouds rolled in a dropped some rain, but it didn't dampen the spirits of the crowd or the bands.

90 minutes of late night southbound motoring and we were safely in to our little "motor-court" lodging circa 1920's:

daepp,
What a great trip, thanks for sharing. I saw Los Lobos a long, long time ago - not here but I wish was: <iframe width="927" height="695" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/JcWHRb4iuRk" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> To stay within the rules: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564764889.JPG |
