You've got a good eye for interesting shots and compostion, Skip! Get a decent camera, shoot in RAW/NEF and with some photo editing software, and you could do some nice work.

My software doesn't have any filter accessories right now, but makes a difference with your blue tinted shot:

Got in an hour on my bicycle on Jan 1st, low 50's, a few blasts of sun shine, small clouds of gnats to snack on and a good solid Northwest drizzle for the last mile made it memorable.
Crazy weather, I don't remember a first of January that nice.
