When I was teaching Horticulture at Daytona Beach Community College my dept was in the Vocational side of the campus and their Photography dept was an award winning one. There was a fellow instructor there I knew from NSB. I think she may have graduated ahead of me by a year and had a younger brother behind me one year. Anyway - we were chatting one day and she asked to take some B&W portrait pics of me for practice. I still have them and here is one she took: https://scontent.ftpa1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...fd&oe=5F16E2A5 I was around 27 by then. I just found her FB page and this pic of her: https://scontent.ftpa1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...d1&oe=5F154B5D I think I will send her a message and let her know I'm still around and how much I enjoyed the photo shoot and the pics she took. Not sure who the fellow is in the pic - maybe her husband. |

My Son suggested an adventure to celebrate Fathers day, I gladly accepted!
Off we went for an overnight backpacking trip. Somewhere between 7 and 8 miles of hiking and 1200' gain/loss on the East Bank Trail along Ross Lake put us at Roland Point. Sunday was windy and pretty chilly requiring a fire to keep us warm enough to have one lake cooled beer each. We had a momma deer that was so comfortable with us that she called her two tiny fawns down off the hillside and fed them both not more than 30 yards away from us. Monday morning was still, as soon as the sun popped up over 9075' Jack mountain the heat was on! Right at 80 degrees by the time we got back to the truck late afternoon. Fire making skills are strong in this dude http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593100220.jpg Father/Son beer/fire time- took a careful balance of getting warmed by the fire and chilled by the beer. Something we are both good at http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593100220.jpg 9PM Alpenglow on Jack Mountain http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593100220.jpg Canada is that way about 20 miles... they still don't want us visiting http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593100220.jpg Fatherly stance http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593100220.jpg I count myself amazingly lucky to have a Son who shares many of my passions and still wants to go spend time with me pursuing them. Also happy I've still got the legs and lungs for 15 miles of wilderness travel when the opportunity arises! PS: Zero monkey rolls required or attempted this trip... they rarely go well with a pack on. |

At dinner last night we were lamenting the end of her extended stay here. She has been a huge help. Quick pic I took many years ago: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593104777.jpg I have been to Ross Lake once. We were imaging dams for the various PUD's in Eastern Washington with UAS and had imaged Wells Dam and Lake Chelan. Things went well and we decided to go visit Ross Dam since is was early. Great drive, especially Route 20 to the Ross Dam Trail. I envy you folks that live in that remarkable part of the world. |
Great shot of your kids!
My Son's off to LA to find his fortunes in just over 2 weeks, it's a mixed blessing to see them grow wings and fly off. I won't be able to blame him for all the saw dust he like to make, dang it, the plus side is I'll get to drink more of the beer I buy. The opportunities here to experience the great outdoors are endless, rain forest, desert, mountains, an inland Sound, the ocean- all within 5 hours of seat time. Ross has been a tradition for over 20 years now. Here we are back in July 1999 motoring down the lake, time does indeed fly by http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593127372.JPG |
Turkeys. Came on the farm this afternoon and there they were. I don’t know why I like them so much.
Rainy day. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593128884.jpg |
Saw this beast recently while biking thru the local small-craft harbor...gotta be one of the ugliest boat I've ever seen. Hard to believe that someone was actually paid to design this thing...and that someone else liked it enough to buy it

^^^^Thanks! We were at Cape Cod sitting on the deck overlooking PTown and the bay and saw this fox wandering in the grass. I knew it was looking for a meal. When he started the chase i kept shooting. That was the best shot.
Here's another.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1593516595.jpg |
