Bucky!!!!!’ A large cat had visited our house this week. Marked our basement door. Fatso is a reference to the height of the sprayer….[emoji15]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d27dec246b.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Shi Shi beach out on the Washington Peninsula 2011.
Son and I did two nights out there, mini high school graduation get away. No direct road access, walk, boat or balloon in. A balloon's probably a poor choice at the moment. Walking back to our campsite after sunset from Point of the Arches we saw a couple of Otter scramble up the beach and into the drift logs for a good night's sleep. First ones I'd ever seen in the wild, lots more since then, the population is recovering http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676587683.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676587683.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676587683.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676587683.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676587683.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676587683.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676587683.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676587683.JPG |

Shi Shi, pt 2
Number of evenings that you can be comfortable on this particular chunk-O-planet in just a t-shirt and shorts during the year are very few! We hit this one just right! Full moon, ground fog early until the sun burns it off... man I gotta go back again http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676655178.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676655178.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676655178.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676655178.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676655178.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676655178.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676655178.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676655178.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676655178.jpg |

Another great photo of Mrs. Doug!
Florida is a great place to visit and beautiful in it's own ways. Move there? I don't see how I could live anywhere else, I'm way too addicted to the beauty of the PNW, there's everything from desert to high alpine wilderness, lakes, rivers and beautiful beach lines within 5 hours overland travel. Much more my speed and dovetails well with the sense of adventure my poppa gave me. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676658183.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676658183.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676658183.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676658183.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676658183.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676658183.jpg |

One of your photos freaked me out a little bit. The one below. I was doing a quick scroll and settled on this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676662198.jpg For a second it looked like your son was overlooking fields from his perch 1000ft up...I got vertigo and rudder shakers immediately:cool: |
That one is a favorite shots from that trip, filtering water just after sunrise.
It's the only time he and I got up there together- 2 days of backpacking, about 15 miles and 5K' of elevation ups and downs culminating in a couple miles off trail over boulder fields with an insanely beautiful payoff. Not another soul in sight for 4 full days until we were miles back down to the end of the official trail. There's lots of crystal clean clean lakes along the way, we passed 6 to get to this one (we do filter just in case, Giardia lamblia would be less than ideal that far back in the hills). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676663868.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676663868.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676663868.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676663868.jpg First view of "The worlds best camping spot" from atop a minor peak one must meander over to get to it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676663868.jpg My son is wearing my old "Sunbuster" wool shirt from REI that I'd worn up there 25 years prior. It, ummm fit's him better now http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676663868.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676663868.jpg Remains of an old raft some one used to access backpackable areas, son and I went over to it and pushed it free to float to where ever it wished. Most peeps that travel these lakes are pretty creative- lot's of the topography is rather flipping steep. Ones that access the outlet of this lake from below find there is no other way except back the way you came or... use a bunch of line and see how far you can go afloat. That's the exact process my Big Brother and his buddy took their first time up... they found a scramble route out. Same as what we used in and out this trip. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676663868.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1676663868.jpg |
