^^^ if I was a real photographer, I'd know the answer But I did see an interesting YT video on sharpness just last night that probably answers the question. This guy had been on a quest for perfect sharpness for years - he had the perfect equipment, the perfect technique, often used a tripod, etc., yet some photos did not appear sharp The same thing has happened to me. He says it's down to 'acutance' ....

So sharpness (or more accurately, perceived sharpness) is down to edge contrast which is created by lighting conditions and subject matter. The camera can't do anything to change that. Here's the vid:

The Real Reason Your Photos Aren't Sharp

He gets into the finer points of post-processing in Lightroom to increase acutance and that's great if you have that. I don't because all I have is a Chromebook and a very basic photo editor. Without the ability to do detailed post-editing, a lot of it is down to being able to recognize optimal lighting when you take the photo.

So it's just the bokeh. Dammit I was hoping you had figured out some image sizing that hit it just right or something. I know I've posted some shots that are downright crispy on my Mac but when the show up on Pelican it's all lost.

Before I could afford a computer and Photoshop I sent out photos that needed to be sharp (typically covers) out to a processing lab where they performed an "unsharp mask" procedure that increase the acutance of the image. As I recall it cost about $25. Once I got a Mac Quadra and Photoshop, I could do it myself in seconds for free.

Another cellphone pic (I just got a new phone so I'm trying things out). As amazing as some of these phones can be (50MP, some degree of manual control and all sorts of gadgets), a conventional camera is superior in every way for any type of serious photography.

^Great shots^

I like that you captured how close the wing tips are to the surface at full articulation.

Something that has always intrigued me is the ability for a camera to capture things the eyes often miss.

I'm doing a fair bit of time lapse photography and really enjoy the results, someday I'll post a few on my YouTube channel

Meanwhile-
This shot of Mt. Baker was shot with moon light only, 5 seconds zoomed, pull out to wide angle and another 5 seconds.
Kind of odd, but I like it.

I remember film cameras and doing a double exposure to get an effect like that. Digital is just so much easier!

Actually did catch one wing in the water! It is fun to go back and study things you didn't catch in real time.

^Better yet!^

Thought my bird feeder was high enough off the ground to keep squirrels out- wrong!

Stepped out on my deck and watched his antics for a bit then I slapped the side of my BBQ and off he went- seemed really confused for a moment running in circles.
Since I’m easily amused, I was-

Looks very well fed.
There’s a big old maple just off the corner of our property that has always had a family of squirrels, a few tempted and failed to out run the Rat Terriers we had years ago. I used to get a call at work now and then warning me there’s something in the backyard I’d need to deal with- I knew what that meant, a Bird, snake or squirrel had lost the fight

Cave of the winds back in September.

My wife is pretty claustrophobic but agreed to go on the 40 minute tour, she clamped down on my arm during the "wanna see how dark dark can be" segment and did very well as long as the caverns were bigger than a living room, I'm proud of her facing fears and overcoming them.

Nope, did not climb that ladder, it's a left over supposedly from earlier access points
