What gets me is AC/DC - there stuff is so similar I can never tell when it was made. My first album purchase: Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. More of an 80s/90s music person aside from that, especially punk rock. Mostly I listen to classical nowadays, though the last thing I bought was the soundtrack to "Waking Life" by Tosca Tango Orchestra. I like it when musicians play with sound - favorite group when I was younger was The Art Of Noise.

My personal favorite:
They Ain’t Makin’ Jews LiKe Jesus Anymore (Kinky Friedman) Well, a redneck nerd in a bowling shirt was a-guzzlin’ Lone Star beer Talking religion and-uh politics for all the world to hear. “They oughta send you back to Russia, boy, or New York City one You just want to doodle a Christian girl and you killed God’s only son.” I said, “Has it occurred to you, you nerd, that that’s not very nice, We Jews believe it was Santa Claus that killed Jesus Christ.” “You know, you don’t look Jewish,” he said, “near as I could figger I had you lamped for a slightly anemic, well-dressed country nigger.“ No, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore, They don’t turn the other cheek the way they done before. He started in to shoutin’ and a-spittin’ on the floor, “Lord, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore.” He says, “I ain’t a racist but Aristitle Onassis is one Greek we don’t need And them niggers, Jews and Sigma Nus, all they ever do is breed. And wops ‘n micks ‘n slopes ‘n spics ‘n spooks are on my list And there’s one little hebe from the heart of Texas — is there anyone I missed ? ” Well, I hits him with everything I had right square between the eyes. I says, “I’m gonna gitcha, you son of a ***** ya, for spoutin’ that pack of lies. If there’s one thing I can’t abide, it’s an ethnocentric racist; Now you take back that thing you said ‘bout Aristitle Onassis.” No, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore, We don’t turn the other cheek the way we done before. You could hear that honky holler as he hit that hardwood floor “Lord, they sho’ ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore!” All right! No, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore, We don’t turn the other cheek the way they done before. You hear that honky holler as he hit that hardwood floor Lord, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore. Everybody! They ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore, They ain’t makin’ carpenters who know what nails are for. Well, the whole damn place was singin’ as I strolled right out the door “Lord, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore!” No, we ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore, We don’t turn the other cheek the way they done before. Well, the whole damn place was singin’ as I strolled right out the door “Lord, they ain’t makin’ Jews like Jesus anymore!”

So YA wana talk Rock and Roll
Theres been a lot of ******* Rock and Roll done for the money, glamor and sex..it's can be called Show Business Rock. Then there are times when the real deal on the edge of chaos talent takes the center of the stage....
The Doors....The End...with the famous line.."Mother I want to fk U." Now it doesn't get more real than that.... Maybe I'll talk about the edge a little more at another time... Here I'll just stick to the Rolling Stones...awhile back I had an argument with CurtisAA about the Stones...I contend that after Altmont they became a Show Business Band...they came right up against the reality of the edge at Altmont and that was murder... The Stones had just performed Sympathy for the Devil and were into Under My Thumb when it happened.. a black man pulled a gun and was beaten to death by the Hells Angels....The Stones didn't perform Sympathy for 5 years after that. I love that crazy little Samba.. Another fav of mine of the Stones is Gimme Shelter....it was written by Keith at a time when he started to chip at Heroin, Brian Jones was passed out most of the time and Mick Jagger was fooling around with Keith's girl friend Anita Pallenburg on the set of Performance.... Mary Clayton the backup vocalist had a miscarriage after recording the song...it just sums up how I have felt most of my life... Monkey Man..."All my friends are Junkies" .....Stray Cat Blues..."Your just 13 years old..why don't you come up stairs"...Jumpin Jack Flash..."I was drowned and washed up and left for dead." Memo from Turner..."Your a lashing, smashing hunk of man, whose sweat shines sweet and strong." and then there is Cock Sucker Blues.."I'm a lonesome school boy, heard about London town so I decided to check it out.."

Wow, Mississippi Queen...spent two hours with Felix Papalardi driving him down to Boston. So amazing as I grew up rockin' on that music. He went on to the cape where his wife shot him for not leaving any blow around for her while he was gone.
She wrote a good part of thier songs by the way.

Hocus Pocus...good one. Another Stones tune I'm partial to is "Live With Me." The first line is "I've got nasty habits, I take tea at 3", and during my many years in the band Nasty Habits, we'd open every show with that tune.
Other classics (not inclusive, and not all my "favorites"): Do It Again - Steely Dan and too many others to mention Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith Dream On Toy in the Attic School's Out - Alice Cooper No More Mr. Nice Guy Whipping Post - Allman Brothers Dreams Let It Ride - Bachman Turner Overdrive Ain't Seen Nothing Yet Takin' Care of Business Bad Company - Bad Company Feel Like Makin' Love Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult Burnin Night Moves - Bob Seeger Hollywood Nights 25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago Make Me Smile Sunshine of Your Love - Cream White Room Crossroads Badge Layla - Eric Clapton (and D&theD) Cocaine Let it Rain Takin' it to the Streets - Doobie Brothers Chinagrove Listen to the Music Already Gone - Eagles Hotel California Victim of Love Evil Woman - ELO Slow Ride - Foghat Fool for the City Solisbury Hill - Peter Gabriel Red Rain In Your Eyes My Sweet Lord - George Harrison What is Life Temptation Eyes - Grass Roots Midnight Confessions American Woman - Guess Who No Time Magic Man - Heart Barracuda White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane Somebody to Love Fire - Jimi Purple Haze All Along the Watchtower Wind Cried Mary Hey Joe VooDoo Chile (slight return) and almost everything else Rocky Mountain Way - Joe Walsh (and James Gang) Turn to Stone Walk Away Funk #49 Zeppelin - too many to list Hurry Sundown - Outlaws There Goes Another Love Song Green Grass and High Tides Jackie Blue - Ozark Mountain Daredevils Do You Feel Like We Do - Peter Frampton Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd Sweet Home Alabama That Smell Ridin' the Storm Out - REO Speedwagon Day of the Eagle - Robin Trower Too Rolling Stoned Bridge of Sighs Little Bit of Sympathy Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder Higher Ground Living for the City Superstition I Was Made to Love Her Miss America - Styx Blue Collar Man Green Eyed Lady - Sugarloaf Bang a Gong - T Rex One - Three Dog Night Joy to the World Life is a Highway - Tom Cochrane What is Hip? - Tower of Power Sould Vaccination Keeping Time - Trapeeze Way Back to the Bone Right Now - Van Halen Runnin' with the Devil many others walk Don't Run - The Ventures Sleepwalk Why Can't We Be Friends - War Cisco Kid Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon Eminence Front - The Who Bargain Baba O'Riley My Wife Behind Blue Eyes Won't Get Fooled again Tush - ZZ Top Jesus Just Left Chicago La Grange |

Tabs, Leslie lives NYC and last I knew he was giving "rock guitar lessons"
Thier drummer Corky Lange is on Imus in the morning once in while and was promoting a new album about 1.5 ago.

Wow, 2nd page at the bottom before any mention of Van Halen. Thanks Todd
I'm going to their concert next week in Chula Vista. Another band not yet mentioned is GnR, ripping, and I really liked The Motels too. Mostly country now

I need to start another thread on "borderline guilty pleasures" and "one/two hit wonders." No Time is a great tune, and American Woman is a classic. You could question the Grass Roots a bit (along with Ozark Mtn. Daredevils), but Temptation Eyes is a great fairly early example of a "produced" rock song.

Jimi's, "Little Wing" a guitar classic. Stevie Ray Vaughn does it Very well too.
For individual Super talents, I think Hendrix might be at the top of my list. |

Hendrix is but a vessel.. he's my desert island pick
Pink Floyd.. UmmaGumma, Meddle, DSotM, Animals, WYWH, The Wall.. just awesome Every Zep album is a classic from start to finish.. with very few exceptions.. Jethro Tull.. I love celtic, bluesy stuff (see Zep) Rush.. Exit Stage Left.. just freaky good.. I've listened to it hundreds of times Sabbath.. Symptom of the Universe? just too heavy.. Frank Zappa.. soooo many great albums.. start with Apostrophe/Overnight Sensation 10 Years after.. Alvin Lee was the man "No Soloution! World Pollution!".. Mountain.. Leslie West would sing, then stop.. move the mic off to the side, and just riff.. very cool band The Who.. some of the most enduring anthems ever.. great songs Beatles.. not the early stuff.. my mom likes that.. but the last few albums are just amazing.. John Lennons solo stuff is just beautiful Yardbirds.. Clapton, Beck, Page.. what else do you need? Clapton.. whethere it's D&tD's or John Mayall, or Cream or Blind Faith.. he always plays great Jeff Beck.. the best phrasing a guitar has ever produced.. Blow by Blow, Wired, Beckola, Truth, Live with Jan Hammer.. wow Miles Davis.. not rock.. so what.. took me a while to wrap my head around it but when I did.. it was like I had heard music for the first time.. Albert King.. where the hell did he get that stuff from? he didn't.. we all got it from him SRV.. see Albert King.. the thing about Stevie was that he never thought for a minute about what he played.. it just flowed This is stupid I could be here for weeks...

No question the "Might be at the top" of my list was because I didn't think about it for 15 sec's.
I wore out a vinal copy of, Band of Gypsy's live at the Filmore. It's no wonder why God called him in early.
