I don't think we'll risk American lives by blowing it apart. That could probably be done with a small platoon or a couple good airstrikes. The broader implication is the holiness of the mosque - said to be the second holiest Islamic site on earth. Non-Islamics can't even enter it.

So that's where we have to be careful IMO.

Use the same gas the Russians used in that theater a couple of years back. If they black out, fine, if they die...so what?

No problemo there, just surround it, cut off all food, water, elelctricity and telephone service to the mosque. Surround it with loudspeakers blaring the Bay City Rollers or (fill in your own obnoxious racket) and wait.

I understand that if an actual attack on the temple or cemetary takes place, it will be the Iraqi Army, not us who will do so.

(ahem) In all seriousness, according to the Gentlemen's Laws Of Civilized Warfare, hiding in a religious building, shooting from a religious building, and using a religious building for a military base all invalidate the "holiness" of that religious building. If somebody parks their tank in the front courtyard of a mosque, and my helo-fired-rocket does damage to the mosque collateral to destroying the tank, that's considered acceptable. If I have to invade a mosque to suppress fire from within, that's considered technically acceptable.

OTOH, the Arab world would be in an uproar. Al Jazeera would claim that the evil blood-thirsty infidels violated the holiest mosque of the holy (may his name be blessed) Muhammed and that our blood should run in the streets. Then the mush-heads of the general American populous would quietly believe these things, as many of our news outlets seem to mostly paraphrase Al Jazeera, and would be upset about what we had done.

So it's a lose lose situation. You leave the rebels there, they cause nasty problems. You go in and get them, your own people rebel against you. Bummer.

Duhh, could it be that they were shooting at our planes every day & were daily violatng the cease fire agreement that Saddaam signed? Plus the fact that saddaam was one of a few people who was willing & able to provide our sworn enemies with chemical & biological weapons. Do you live in a cave?

I'm just trying to understand what you would like to see happen over there, Mule. You think that Muslims will hate and want to kill you under any circumstance. Do you want to see every Muslim on the planet dead?

I don't know what "Muslims" intend to do. But I do know that a sustantial number of Muslims believe that the world would be a better place if I (and you too) were dead.
