Birth of the savior/son of God?
....From multi-millenium-old roving-Jesuit Middle-Eastern leader against Roman rule.... ....to a single-day celebration of everything holy and good (which happens to coincide with a new rotation around the sun and the end of the crop cycle) to... ...An Irish priest breaking into poor peoples houses to give them stufff to... ...a 100day+ commercial season of forced buying of crap-to prove you love the people around you- to... ...that symbol of yearly celebration telling a teenage military man to dismiss the value of roving Jesuit Middle-Eastern leaders...

Stuart and Victor you guys have missed the whole point of this thread, there are planty of threads criticizing the US government and it's military. Ron started this thread to honor the soldiers who defend our freedom and try to bring freedom to others. I'm guessing here but there's roughly 200,000 troops in Iraq and out of that a small few stepped over the line during a time of war and made what appears to be a mistake and you want to criticize the entire military? That's fine, you have the right to criticize but can't you show even a little respect and show that criticism in another thread. I really don't care what country you're from Stuart but it's a safe bet your country has benefited in some way from either the US govenment or the American soldier. What would happen if the US just stopped providing aid around the world? What if we said no when our troops where needed? What if we just told the world outside our close circle of true friends to fxxk off? My grandfather fought in WWII losing many friends and nearly his life, two uncles in Vietnam, my boss in Korea each of them put their lives on the line for the sake of others, when you trash talk any soldier fighting a war you might as well trash talk them all. Try some of that talk around a veteran and see what it gets you.

You display the same lack of rationality and objectivity that you displayed in the recent god thread, Shadowfax. I have no intention of raising a rifle against anyone in the foreseeable future, let alone against some poor schmucks trying to eek out a living collecting garbage in a country that been liberated within an inch of its life in order realise a neo con wet dream. If you can mount any defence for Abu Graihb, Bagram, the recent video shooting incident, and this incident posted earlier- please do. Remembering charges have been laid, ofcourse. Consider also there is just the slightest of possibilities that more of these incidents are occurring than is being either reported to or prosecuted by military authorities in Iraq. After all, 10,000- (one estimate of 100,000)- Iraqis are dead and require no further liberation. Now do please post something more about the sweet innocent soldier and the jolly fat santa sleeping in the same room. Read the James Jones “The Thin Red Line”? A lot of that sort of thing went on in the army, at least in WW2. Whoops, there goes another sacred cow. stuart Last edited by stuartj; 12-14-2004 at 04:20 AM.. |

http://www.consulfrance-atlanta.org/forces_francaises.htm a total of 1,470 French troops are involved in the stabilization of Afghanistan. PS: French special forces almost caught Osama bin ladden two years ago......................just the facts. The first narrative at the start of this thread is still cool, just take it as fantasy.

The profile of the need to be the center of attention is driven by the need of self importance. Any time spent in discussion is a "waste of time". The choices, concerning life events, have not fulfilled the the question of "who am I ?". Any dislocation with inner beliefs is a threat to "self importance". The lack of friendship leaves behind a tension that must destroy any threat in order to attempt survival. The timeless words of "we hurt the one's we love" is the most obvious repercussion.

Stuart,
I'll try reason one more time. Yes, atrocities have happened. Yes there are soldiers guilty of crimes. Yes, this is a tiny percentage of the US military. When you go out on the street, like it or not, you cannot deny the fact that there are criminals out there with you. There are, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Now, are you telling me the only ones who can get in the military are the ones who have some kind of super moral tests done. A guarantee that they can commit no crime? Reality check. There will be those who do what they shouldn't. Why would you punish the military as a whole and not the individual? If one is guilty, all are guilty? Yeah, thats mature. The military always has and always will deal with those that commit crimes. Its a fact, we live with it. As long as the crime gets reported, your going in front of the judge. I guess when I was in Saudi (doing my duty for my country, not sitting around critisizing others), and never fired a shot or had an unkind word to a local, supported thier community with my US dollars (which they were very happy to get), just so I could send things back home to show my family another culture, I guess I was a neo con military bas%ard eh? I think its obvious who is what here... Your ranting and raving proves nothing. You blame the acts of individuals as the image of the whole. Next time someone in your area commits a crime maybe they should just say how terrible you all are and string you all up. Don't make sense, does it? But, I am sure you can shrug this all away and still say how bad the us military is... to bad I have been there, I am still there, and it is nothing like you would like to make it. Sorry, your out of luck, out of reason, and out of reality. Enjoy it.

When you unleash a military on a civilian population, atrocities, deliberate and accidental, will inevitably be visited on a civilian population. If you take a decision to use weapon knowing that there may be civilian casualties, then the resulting civilian deaths cannot be “accidents”. This is a most excellent excellent reason to avoid starting wars, especially those which do not carry the moral imperative, or indeed are based on utterly false pretences, or “lies” as they are sometimes known. So when we read down home, saccharine, tear jerking faux fairy tales about angelic soldiers defending the freedoms of our children in far off lands, some of us- perhaps the entire population of the world bar the half of the US population that re-elected the current cabal of god bothering lunatics- are inclined to reach for the barf bag. I wonder if there is a room full of people at the back of Pat Robinson’s glass cathedral pumping this crap into the internet. Call it for what it is – propaganda. Stuart |
