Cool...
- A redneck republican from Texas and a BLH from the peoples republic of Taxichusetts - this might actually be pretty interesting! (I'll keep the hollowpoints and my Buck knife at home - still gonna wear my Justin Ropers though!)

Interesting to say the least! Maybe we could start a trend and heal the nation by coming together... blah, blah, blah...

If nothing else, it'll make local news.

yep, but that rascle was quickest to the trigger. Beantown is doable, Australia would have been tough to make good on the bet. I guess some guys will do anything for a free dinner - downside, Shaun has to hear me prattle on. Maybe the chewing will drown out the chatter!

And you know some people just know things.

I thought there was a good education system downunder?

Yea it's an ok education system, but we don't "waste" time on poetry. Can't afford to as the job market is just way too competitive...why study poetry when you can study high level mathematics, economics, sciences etc which will actually get you into university?

Poetry can make you as much money as math, you just have to be as good at it, relatively. I am not talking about being a poet, per se.

True, but it won't get you into university. Besides, we only had 180 days of school a year, and 6 hours a day...not much time for stuff that isn't completely necessary.

This thread can go one way or the other real quick!
I have a BA in philosophy, a BS in chemistry and a masters in chemical engineering. I can see the need for all that I have studied even though I may not "use" it on a daily basis.

I am sure the higher educational system down under is very good. Focusing in on a particular discipline is always going to make you successful to a point. Much can be said for a well rounded education that not only prepares you for a profession but also enriches your life. The study of philosophy or poetry may not have a direct impact on your wallet but it will enrich and help train your brain to look at various points of view. In the states, some of the better universities require so many hours and in a variety of subject matter - these are the schools that students from all over the world are looking to get into and they are also the schools that are making the greatest contributions as well.

The toughest class I ever took was a Western Civ class at a Junior College...The proffessor would actually give you the questions on his essay exams at begining of each section..he would pick 4 questions out of 200. Each question he gave you had a 4 part answer...the only way to pass was to know the answers to all 200 questions...The best I could ever do was a B out of him....Yet this girl would ace his tests...and one day the subject got around to VD, and the way to make it socially acceptable was postulated that you could catch it from toillette seats and this girls answer was "Well you can can't you." Maybe the moral of this story is that you can be an absolute dingbat and still do well in school....

information is not knowledge, and knowledge is not wisdom, to achieve wisdom you must know that you need information.

Titles are for books, names are for tombstones and degrees are for thermometers! It takes money to buy wiskey...
