I hope it all well works for you. My wife and I lost our beloved Pepe' about 2 years ago, he was only 5 years old and was killed by a car the day before we lost our unborn baby, it was a very, very bad couple of days. It has, in the end though, brought us closer with each other. We miss Pepe' everyday as he was the best friend one could ever have.

We had another cat who was younger that went into mourning when Pepe' died. We adopted another kitten within weeks and it really helped the other cat. He would sit at the door and cry or just hide in the basement until we got him a new companion. Now we are blessed with our 2 year old Patrick the red headed crazy cat.

I hope it works out for you.

Erik

On Ramp,

First, best of luck on this, don't give up until it's over, animals are amazing....

About two months ago, my dog of 11 years wouldn't get up one morning, which is VERY unusual since morning is breakfast time. Usually, she does spinning 360s the whole way to the back door.

Long story short, she had a HUGE tumor on her spleen and things looked bad. We kept pushing forward, step by step until we got to surgery. They asked us again if we really wanted to proceed (All of this ran us about $4k!!!!!) and we simply HAD to. So, they removed her spleen.

I can tell you that she is back, alive and spinning 360s on a daily basis.

I truly do hope and pray that you will have similar luck. We feel very lucky and don't regret the money thing one bit. Some will laugh and say we were foolish, but when someone in your family needs help, you just do what you have to do!

Kindest Regards,

-Chris

PS - Hope you don't mind one from the dog files

Sorry to hear about your sick Cat. Hopefully they’ll be able to remove the tumor and she’ll be good as new.

We have a tuxedo cat too! I would be quite distraught if she were sick.

Hope things work out for the best, rampster. I lost my first cat, Gilligan, when I was a wee, chubby lad. The loss is sad, but the good memories overshadow.

your stories are heartfelt, it's amazine how emotionally attached we can become to our little friends....

UPDATE:

we're home after a long day, X-ray and ultrasound showed a sizeable tumor(about 1" long) around the intestine.. .99% cancerous as so the doctor said. They also did an asperate, took a cell sample and sent it out for testing....given the size of the tumor, surgery seems very likely now, within 1-2 days.
it's very sad but we have hope and will do everything we can to save Kiwi's life.

Since my previous post was deviod of photos, I have a couple to add. This is Stimpy who's currently sick. This isn't the best photo, but it sure is funny!

This is his "sister" Dublin who's taken over the dog's bed!

You certainly are! Kiwi should be lucky to have parents that love her so much and go to every measure there is!

With SQL she got a shot of anti-biotics and is recovering and much better. My boss also had a pet in the emergency room today. Stepped on his ferret by accident and did series damage to it Its been a strange day for pets with me.

VaSteve thats SQL mom?

He he. She did have a litter of kittens, but that was before we had her (she was my wife's grandfather's cat). SQL is cute and that's a cool name. I guess you're a DBA or some sort?

sadness.

i got a cat by dating (and having her move in) a girl that already owned one. charity is a great cat. she is also blk/wht. not so "in your face" like some cat i have met. i'll be damn, if she didnt grow on me. we have an agreement between us. she lets me pet her just enough and she doesnt shred my stuff. lately she has been annoying me, by not burying her turds. i asked my girlfriend, "how long do cats live?". i regret it now. i hope kiwi kicks some butt thru this.

Well there's a perfect illustration of ignorance is bliss. Your cat actually looks pretty contented and seems to have little concern for his prognosis. Just be happy knowing that you gave him a good life in comfortable surroundings, and did the best you could and the rest is really not in our hands.

If the worst should occur, a good thing to do would be to go to the local animal shelter and adopt another. If you've ever been to one of these places it would really break your heart to see these abandoned animals who really do have a sense of their impending doom. Maybe it's not in your power to cure a sick animal but it's certainly possible to rescue a potential loving pet from one of these horrible places.

On-Ramp: your kitty is in my prayers.

VaSteve: Does Stimpy always wear a watch? That's so awesome, you can always call the cat over to see what time it is... I like it I hope he gets well, btw.

One of our kitties, Tiny, weighs about 30-35 lbs, and needs to go on a diet soon.

I think that's the only time we did that. I guess we saw that Pets.com spokesdog on tv for inspiration. Thanks for the warm wishes.

good thoughts for your cat. your story hits close to home as we just found out our cat has CRF (chronic renal failure - kidney failure). spent a butload of money on him (no new motor for me this year but that's fine). we now have to give him fluid shots under the skin a few times a week but all in all well worth it!
so it sounds like you're on the ball with finding a better vet (same story here) and doing what's necessary. good to see people giving their pets the best fighting chance - awesome.
