** WARNING ** Spoilers below for Season 2, Episode 2: **

I think they first thought the power turning off was due to the supposed virus. However, once they found out they were boarded by the toasters, they kinda figured out it was them sabotaging the ship.

I liked the episode -- dealt with a couple of social issues: casualties of war/euthanasia, and I thought the vision of Baltar watching Adama drown the cylon/human baby was quite disturbing, but in a 'makes ya think' good sort of way. Similar to the concept of enthnic cleansing that we've seen in Nazi Germany, Romania, and of late, Iraq.

The first two episodes of season two were more violent and bloody, which is fine, but IMHO, it's not needed - they can tone it down a bit.

Very intense episode.

Another good one... Though I think the trouble the main protagonists are in is a bit overdone... I didn't quite "buy" why apollo would risk everything to "defend" the president (for nothing, too) against his father, his rank etc. Seemed a bit rash... Same with Starbucks, though more expected of her... Seems to me some creative writing will be needed to make then part of the crew again, by most definitions of a normal military they should be court martialed for good...

I sense a martial law imposed by the good old Colonel, followed by a civilian rebellion led by the union guy (the old appollo), Adama finally waking up to this mess and taking control again, and a restoration of presidential powers followed by a presidential pardon for appollo and starbucks. How else ?

PS: Starbucks driving a hummer on caprica kinda ruined the suspension of disbelief... What's next, a prius ?

ok ok....ok... now that you guys got me hooked on this (just watched the 3-hr miniseries, basically the beginning) I'm dying to catch up, but don't want to jump into the middle of the story.

soooo, are you watching season 2 right now? if so, how many episodes are in season 1? Again, is it out on dvd? Soon? Normally, by the time 2nd season is on the network the 1st one gets released on disc (that's what they did w/ "24")

Deschodt 07-25-2005 08:03 AM

Can't remember, I'd say 10 or 12... Season 1 in DVD is not out in the US but it is in the UK. You can buy that series from england if you have a multizone DVD player. Or you could wait a bit, or find a kind soul who burned them... they were all on bit torrent but that's getting hard to download...

}{arlequin 07-25-2005 08:09 AM

damn.... ok, i'll sit it out and wait until it comes out. Thanks.

Z-man 07-25-2005 08:16 AM

Harlequin:
I believe the US-version DVD of season 1 will be out this fall.

My suggestion - you've already seen the mini-series, which lays the groundwork for the series. Jump in and start watching the Season 2 episodes now, or you'll get even more behind.

Besides, if you have any questions, there are plenty of folks here who can fill you in on the details. :)

They may also start airing the season one episodes again on other channels besides Sci-Fi - just keep an eye out.

-Z.

PS: Something to ponder: ever notice how the 'toaster' cylons are a bad shot? I mean with all the technology, you'd think they can pick off an apple on a person's head from 100 yards away! Yet, often they fire their guns and miss their targets. I think I have an explanation: consider the fact that their red eye is moving back and forth. Must be hard to focus -- imagine firing a gun with your field of vision moving back and forth!!

}{arlequin 07-25-2005 08:34 AM

yeah, i think you have the right idea z.

the only thing i hate is the wait between the episodes. i love watching the entire season, several episodes at once, totally inhaling the whole thing. that way you don't feel like they leave you hanging w/ some wild finale

I dunno, Z. I think watching the first season is critical before seeing these new ones. The whole relationship between Adama/Roslyn, Dee/Billy?, Starbuck/Apollo, Baltar/everyone will be missed. The deviousness of the cylon models from "Flesh and Bone" will not be clear.

I finally got time to watch the second new episode last night, and one thing about that raiding party is really bugging me. Well, two things:

SPOILERS BELOW

1) We didn't see all the occupants of the boarding craft - wondering if more human cylons or equipment are now on the ship.

2) This is the big one - in the season finale, Adama sends Boomer to a base star with a nuke. The cylons let her deliver the nuke and send her back so she can shoot Adama in the chest. Then they launch a massive conventional attack on Galactica.

Why?

Why didn't they send the nuke back with Boomer and blow it up when she landed back on Galactica? It doesn't make sense.

Unless they really don't want to destroy Galactica.

Anyway, it was an awesome episode. My favorite show by far. :)

I keep thinking the same thing.

The Cylons repeatedly have chances to kill humans, and often let them live instead.

Helo on Caprica...

Starbuck on Caprica (why just send a single Number 6?)...

Several chances to destroy the Galactica...

It's like they want humans to believe they are in a state of war when they really don't want to kill them.

Maybe they studied humans during peace-time on Caprica, and now want to study them during war?

Yep, I truly love this show. For anyone without cable (by choice at the moment, too much crap on), it's instantly available on bittorrent, got it with 100+ seeders the day after it aired.

** edit ** not that I condone stealing the show mind you ;)

}{arlequin 07-25-2005 08:48 AM

ahhhh.... spoilers spoilers!!! you guys are killing me... ok, unsubscribe :D

cowtown 07-25-2005 09:12 AM

Oops, sorry H. I should have put in a warning.

}{arlequin 07-25-2005 09:18 AM

LOL, no prob... as soon as the sentence didn't quite make sense to me I closed it

Yep -- that's what I'm thinking -- how do we know all the cylons that boarded Galactica have been destroyed?

** Warning - spoiler type stuff typed below.... ***

That said, I think that cylon ship will have a purpose -- it may be used to bring back Starbuck and the Arrow of Apollo from Caprica, seeing that her cyclon ship has been apprehended by the toasters. I guess the Cylons thought their plan was failproof - why else would they leave cylon technology amongst the humans? (Counterpoint: if they have a cylon tracking device on that ship, it may not be wise for Galactica to keep it around. Just drop it off before they jump again)

Another thought -- perhaps the cylons can use Starbuck's ship to zero in on Galactica.

The plot thickens...
-Z.

My life has turned into one big wait for Friday evening... ;)

legion 07-25-2005 01:44 PM

Wait...there's a mini-series?

No wonder I felt like I was beginning in the middle with the first episode...

Where can I get my hands on the mini-series?

}{arlequin 07-25-2005 01:47 PM

LOL, that's the only answer that I *do* know.... you can rent or buy it now, approx 3 hours total.... it's the only dvd w/ a BSG-looking cover.... has most of the important characters on it... No. 6 prominently in the middle :D

ernestedward 07-25-2005 04:15 PM

Anybody else suspect that Dualla (Dee) or the random techie guy that Apollo's fire team ran into exhibited strange Cylon-like behaviors? Dee all of a sudden has a change of heart with the President's closest advisor (in the style of No. 6 and Sharon-cylon-caprica), and the tech guy miraculously is the only one left alive on that deck ("I just ran in here to hide!").

That's my impression, anyway.
