Got a new Cockatiel

My friend at the pet store called me up today... they had another cockatiel that he thought I'd like, so I went and checked it out. His name is Jeb, and he's a 1 month old Pied cockatiel. He seems pretty smart so far, he whistles a couple of different tunes and has a different personallity than my other Cockatiel.

Here's a picture of Napoleon and Jeb. Napoleon is a Lutino Whiteface, so he doesn't have any color at all, and Jeb is the Pied.

Anyone else here into birds? I'm searching for plans for the aviary I want to build. I will have a giant Parrot cage for them outside when summertime comes, so I want a nice indoor aviary instead of a regular cage.

I have one. A male named Ringo. Says "I'm a pretty boy", I'm Ringo" and whistles most of "pop goes the weasle" Wolf whistles too. He is a good companion after my divorce. Even craps on me like the ex..............

Yeah! Ringo is funny, he bows his head waiting for me to scratch the back of his neck and as I am rubbing his neck, he is setting me up! Nips the fingers. It's a game with him. I'll be in the computer room and we whistle back and forth. He imitates very well.

Ringo sounds awesome! How old is he? Napoleon is only 2 months old, so I can't expect too much yet. For now I'm trying to just get him to imitate my whistles and to drink from a water bottle instead of a dish.

I think Napoleon is going to be the dominant one. He likes to hang upside down from the branches and fan all of his feathers at Jeb, who then bites at Napoleon's tail feathers. It's kindof funny.

I had a pair that were named Cisco and Kismet - both did catcalls, (sometimes in the middle of the night - drove us nuts) and they'd do these little synchronized dances now and then.

Kismet was the more athletic one, and do funny hangs upside down while the other one would try, and fail. When Cisco failed, she'd have a big hissy fit and snap at the other one.

I'd take 'em out and they'd either perch on my head while I walked around the house or we'd just crash in front of the TV and they'd fall asleep on my chest.

They both loved warm water baths with squirt bottles and the hair dryer afterwards.

Miss playing around with 'em, but I don't miss the noise.

Ringo's about 2 1/2 years old. I have vaulted ceilings so he can fly if he wants to, but tends to like being on my shoulder. He learned a lot in a short time span. The vet said that would happen, then it would be harder for them to learn something new. He is a great companion. Can spit a seed across the living room, DAMN IT! Once flew into my bedroom and chased the dog out!!

either of you guys ever put a patch on yer eye, get a old broom stick and use it like a wooden leg, get a hook for your hand, and walk around the house saying things like "shiver me liver", or "tie that scurvy dog to the yarn arm", or "arrrrrg!", whilest the bird sits on your shoulder?

never got the bird thing. it kills me to see people at a street fair, or flea market with a bird riding on their shoulder and poo all down their back. my animals get whacked if they $hit anywhere but out back, much less on my person.

You just deal with it. Kinda like oil leaks from your Porsche.

Wow you must be a real tough guy to hit an animal and to be proud enough to post about it. Do you beat kids who spill there glass of milk as well? Next time you spill some oil in the garage let me know and I will make sure you don't do it again, of coure I am just trying to make a point. I have no tolerance for violence.

BD, lighten up. i have a liter box for the cat and i never hit the dog. i prefer kicking him, with my big boy boots. i also have a shock collar that i use on him strictly for entertainment purposes. you should see him jump when it gets fresh batteries! never thought a mere 9 volts could make a dog scream too much.

in all seriousness my animals rule the house. i live in a world of hairballs rolling around my wood floorsw. there are a few pelicans that know my dog mcqueen and they may chime in here to confim his royal treatment.

in fact i like him more than you. << see thats tongue in cheek like most of my "whacked pirate post"

I woke up this morning and Jeb was whistling a new tune. It took me a few minutes to place it, but I eventually did. He had learned the whistle tune from Kill Bill, and I haven't watched that movie in months! How in the world he learned it from that one time, then waited until now to sing it, I have no idea.

I have two English Parakeets. They fly around my house. I don't believe in clipping wings. That would be like chopping off our fingers and leaving only the palms, kinda sucks. The older one (by 6 months) used to talk, then when the new one was introduced, the first one stopped. They can be calming, but they can also be like two two year olds.

Both of my cats are "into" birds in a big way. My little 6 pound female scored an adult dove the other day. I was out on the deck and heard the noise. I saw here with it, but she trotted off to enjoy the meal by herself.

My 12 pound male has "hunted over a baited field" in that he caught several "stupid" birds simply by waiting below a feeder, leaping straight up, reaching into the feeder, and returning to earth with a prize. Pretty smooth in his timing. We had to stop that, wasn't really fair.

With three dogs as well, we don't have captive birds in the house, wouldn't be "right".
