Well shoot Shaun... we certainly are in trouble.

I say that since we are just 1 millimeter safer that we should absolutely impeach Bush now. We need someone in the office that can make us at least 1 inch safer. Heck, even 12 inches would be nice! No wait, I've got it... We need someone that can make us at least 1 mile safer. Let's get it done people!

Surely Kerry would have done a better job. Hopefully we can hold on long enough for Hillary to take over.

On a side note... My neighbor is ex-military and is currently some type of contractor for the military (but he won't tell me in what capacity). He just returned from 18 months in Iraq. He says that the terrorists have converged on Iraq to fight. And we are killing them. BUT... are you ready for this??? The guy is liberal.

That thought never occured to me.

How DO you find terrorists? Where do you look?

You don't, you give em something to get pissed about and bring them to you.

It's brilliant.

To bad I don't think our current leadership could have thought it up in a million years but whatever.

And it'll be a more conservative campaign than you can imagine.
If "HILLARY" wins in 2008 -- well then, I'm gonna move to France.

Skip, if you think 97% of all imports in the U.S. not being screened is your idea of GWB doing a good job on the war on terror, well... words escape me.

A first! Bravo!

Who cares what Kerry would have done! it's a moot point and not even a viable argument.

Who cares that we are killing terrorists in Iraq! Our borders aren't safe. Our country isn't safe. The administration has failed you. Take the giant mental leap and suppose that not every terrorist in the world is in Iraq. Jesus Christ Skip, what will do it for you?

really quite disappointed in you.

Holy crap Shaun, get a grip. You think screening cargo is the answer? How about searching every vehicle, every semi, every cruise ship, every private boat, etc etc.. If this is the kind of thing you expect from government......you need pop the titty out of your mouth and grow up.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to prevent anyone from sneaking "something" into the country, IMPOSSIBLE. I really thought you were smarter than this. Go to the border crossings Shaun, you know here in Michigan, Texas, New York... How much time are we gonna spend searching each vehicle? 5 minutes? 20? an hour? As long as it takes because little Shauny wants his government to protect him from every possible thing? The fact that you think this is some major failure gets a big WOW from me. A bit harsh on my part, but damn dude..

Nice try at deflection Len, but if it boils down to standards, and if your's are woefully inadequate, then so be it. I didn't say 100%, did I? Can you please at least stay factually within my argument? It's not too hard, the words are right there in front of you.

With your post Len, I've lost all respect for you; in fact it's so stupid I can't believe you even wrote it. You run a company, don't you? When was the last time you did anything at 3%? Didn't think so.

You must be one of those parents who thinks every kid gets an award for showing up on the ballfield.

Is this is all you got, maybe it's late for you? The fact is you are wrong. Not harsh at all, but thanks for playing dude, now go back to your little wonderland and play. Standards, Len, standards. If you want real debate, I'm here, but don't waste my time with inane, deflective comments as above. You've posted better in the past. It's all about standards.

Kinda funny come'n from a pretty wool died republican.

Can't say I really like the progress of what is going on but then again I really don't know the details. I only get to talk to maybe someone once every month who is returned from the war. They all think it is the right thing to do and only 50% like GW.

I just look at the numbers now and I also gage it all on our business. It has never been better. Our customers business's are doing well too. We are talking a very mixed bag of tricks you must relize. It could be the sweet spot of the swell before the breaker crushes down but like they say in the trenches - smoke'm if ya got'm...

Your emotional BS aside, your argument lacks logic, which is my whole point. You are all worked up because Bush hasn't made you FEEL safer. You're smart enough to know searching xx% of cargo won't actually MAKE us any safer, so like I said grow up. Or maybe you think it will make us safer? If so how, do you think they are so stupid as to try to smuggle something in via a highly scrutinized or regulated carrier when countless other methods are readily availible? Tell me on your "thumb and forefinger scale" how much safer we'de be vs how much safer you'll feel if we searched 5%? 10%? 50%?
The attempt to say Bush has failed for not searching more cargo is laughable. He knows it would be a waste of resources, and hence is not a goal of his. So yes, he has fallen short on a goal he never set for his administration, I'm crushed A lesser politician would however do it for you Shaun, because most do care how you "feel", Bush would rather see us actually be safer, like I've said...He's a man of action and convictions, not polls and emotions.

If you still hold your position on this, please complete:

We will be (pick your scale) safer when we search xx% of cargo because......(Hint: try to avoid the word "feel")

P.S. do you know why they search the 2-3% that they do? Because that is the percentage of containers that have been deemed suspicious. What a concept! Searching that container of rerod from Canada makes about as much sense as strip searching the 90 year old grandmother before she gets on that flight from Omaha to Chicago. But then again, it might make you FEEL safer, so by all means......

FWIW, I still have a modicum of respect for you

No. That's not what I said. I'm mad because we're only 1 millimeter safer, and that it must be George's fault. I won't be happy until we're at least 3 meters safer, with growth of at least an additional 1 meter of safeness each year afterward.

I can't argue with that logic either...

I do however think we need to agree on the accepted standards to properly measure our safeness moving forward.

First, will this National Safeness Report (heretofor NSR) chart actual or perceived safeness? Or possibly both?

Second, will the NSRs unit of safeness be the commonly accepted and peer reviewed "old coast guard guy thumb and forfinger(OCGGTF)" method or perhaps some measure of actual deaths or successful terrorist plots and attempts here in the US? personally I could go either way, but OCGGTF does have a nice ring to it

No pool guy. Well, Fabrio is the painter, he seems to make regular visits - thing is, I don't think any of the rooms have been painted lately. Then there is Jason the bug guy and some guy names Scott who is the lawn guy - they both seem to be around alot - the spiders are still around too as well as the weeds.

The Mrs sure does seem worn out. Poor thing, maybe I should send her on a trip down to New Orleans with her girl friends for a week. She could use a lil fun...
