My folks and sis live in Lakeland, FL. About the center of the Florida peninsula just west of Orlando. Last year, three of the storms passed right over Lakeland. Lots of damage all over -- my family escaped the storms with only very minor damage (screen lanai and minor roof damage).
Good luck to all you Sunshine state folks! -Z.

I'm of the same mind as Paul. Problem is we've got to find a house there soon, so already have tickets to Tampa for next Monday!
What do the airlines do in these cases? Don't want to get stuck in an airport for days.

If your buying a house..bring lots of cash. the market is very hot. I work at the local paper and do real estate advertising. This market is screamin'. Are you buying new or a resale?

#1 pretty much all of the computer models have it going to the West... #2 Monday if it's bad - they won't let you even fly in... #3 Hurricanes are like Tornadoes except larger - and you have more advanced notice. I'll 2nd the screamin housing market... I've made more on my house than my job in the past few years...

Yeah, already looked at the prices - unbelievable what's going on, but it's happening anywhere in the sunbelt except maybe Texas. Already have been out there several times this year. Anyway, have to have a place to live soon because my job starts 9/1.
I'm worried about getting stuck in a hub city ie LA to Houston, Houston to Tampa if Tampa closes for the 'cane. What's up w/the panhandle lately. News from there reminds me of that Lubemaster77 thread about his neighbors

There are conflicting models now. The WFLA graphics show it much closer to us. It really looks like a rerun of Charlie.
Peter, are you looking in TPA only?

Not liking the way this one is shaping up =
now north of Jamica, North of the projected path) don;t be shocked if the next update has this one going up the west coast, the models are starting to bring it further east...

Isn't this early? When I lived in Fernandina in 1990, we didn't think about these until September.

yep a little early. Can't wait to see what's in store for us later in the season. If this is foreplay, we're in trouble.
Peter...want to buy my house? how about this weekend...;-)

But maybe I could help you "take care" of your house and the extensive damage that the hurricane caused (you are insured now, right?) and we could help each other!

![]() I hope you kept your insurance, or at least comp, on it. Thats what I do to avoid being worried about a non-evacuatable car in the garage. |

In a recent email, a P-car owning friend in Florida (lives near a canal) told me of his prep for rising water...he drives the car onto a large heavy duty sheet of plastic, then raises the edges of the plastic a few feet...the worst he's seen is 2' of water...so far, so good.
