1962 MGA. Taught me more about electrics (and not having them) and the art of adjusting valves than any other car I ever had.

'65 Impala, 350, 4spd, 4.11 gears. Not the fastest around, but pretty quick and fun.

A 1964 faded green dodge dart with a push-button transmission.

Yep, had to keep a big stick in the back to beat off all the girls trying to jump in when I stopped at red lights

I can beat that.

1971 Dodge Colt.

I saved up and bought with my own money when I was 15 for $400, this was in 1981. It spun a bearing due to my abusive driving. I rebuilt the engine when I was 16 and sold the car.

I bought a 1967 Mustang with a 302 in it and a 4 speed w/ a Hurst shifter for $600. I loved that car so much. I still miss it. Wish I had kept it instead of selling it for a Toyota Celica to ease the cost of my cummute to work every day.

My family was pretty hard up when I was a teen and I attribute a lot of my respect for money today due to that.

I have told my son (12) over and over to start saving for a car because I will not buy one for him.

He needs to learn this stuff. Too many kids today get everything handed to them and do not know what it means to work for what you have.

1986 Saab 900 hatch in 1994. Great learning experience in terms of working on cars, lets just leave it at that. Sold in early 1997 with well over 230k on it.

1978 Mazda GLC. Got it in 1983. 1.3 liter engine that couldn't pull greasy strings out of a cat's butt.

I almost bought an Austin Healey Sprite for $595, but I was too big for it.

My first car was a lot like this '65 Chevy pickup. Mine was painted with three colors of primer and rustoleum. It was an indestructable beater and ugly as hell. I just remember being thrilled to have wheels.

72 Datsun 240Z. I learned some basics about buying old car, like (1) don't buy at night and (2) look under the car for street signs welded in to support the rusted away unibody. Bought it for $1500, sold it a month later for $400. Chaulked it up to learning experience.

Several years later I bought a sweet 78 280Z.

86 Renault LeCar for $260. Mine had the BIG engine (1.4), as well as teh large canvas sunroof. Managed to score soem nice 3 bolt mags, and a pile of performance parts from Archer racing. It was inexpensive, a ton of fun to drive and a lot more interesting than an old honda or some such alternative. Mind you, it was a major pain to work on.
