If you're really into a khukuri try these guys: http://www.himalayan-imports.com/

Himalayan Imports probably makes the best morden Kuhks. Kuhks are great camp knives, does just about everything from splitting wood, digging holes, hammering spikes to scaring away the rif-raf. Not good for carrying around unless you like the croc dundee look.

For carry around and light work get an Emerson CQC7, those little buggers are indestructable.

This is why Randall got to be famous in the first place.

You can spend a lot of $$$ if you want, but I doubt you'd put a collector knife in a survival pack. I would choose a folder of 3-4 inches blade length with a combo serrated and straight edge for a "multifunction survival knife". Won't be a good "sticker" knife (for which you should have something fixed/full tang), but will be the most versatile. I have the Gerber X-change blade (mentioned earlier), and it works reasonably well. However, I believe that Gerber is no longer doing business. Spyderco, Buck, Kershaw are all good production knives that I've used. Benchmade is supposed to be good (no experience).

Even some of the military surplus survival knives are pretty good for the fixed blade option.

Auto knives are legal in Arizona. Its well worth checking out the local rules as places like Cali it is against the law if you are not LE.

A good Puma or the like is hard to beat. I have a stag handled Puma that I bought 25 years ago that is like new.

Also for auto's, the Hubertus from Germany is one of the best, but you are looking at $200 minimum. I have several and they are a work of art.
