just checked in with them down there. things are still mild but the wind is starting to pick up. they're allegedly expecting 80 to 100 mph winds. not as bad as originally predicted, but still pretty good. it's a waiting game now

Well the 'evacuation' routes are finally cleared. I'm off I45 north of Hou. The commute home from work on Wed was entertaining to say the least, as the evacuation had already begun. I'd heard over a million people on the freeways. Hard to imagine until you've seen it. And I was one of them - just glad I wasn't in the 911! Can you imagine depressing your clutch up and down for two hours - and going just a few miles. TG for automatic tyranny. Many poor souls spent as long as 24 hours just to get cross town. I gave up after a couple of hours & spent a few days in the Woodlands (half way home) Basically nothing was moving. And no gasoline to be had anywhere near the freeways. A logistical nightmare. I'm sure all the officials learned some valuable lessons from this excercise. Don't get me wrong though ---overall I'm very pleased by their efforts. And it sure beats the New Orleans alternative.
Just having fun in Houston.

![]() I've been to Clear Lake and agree that isn't the place to be. My ex's parents lived in Houston and had a condo at Clear Lake. Best of luck to all those down there... |

Thats really scary pictures. Gives me that ominous feeling Stephen King portraits so well.
But this is real life. I can´t imagine what you are going threw - must be terrible.

Thanks Todd. I have the splinters to show.
Markus, it isn't bad yet and I'm not expecting it to be bad, now that the storm is tracking east of us. However, these storms are never perfectly predictable. We do expect to get Tropical Storm force winds (65-120 kph). We may lose a few roof shingles...

Thunder, lightning, torrential rain, unbelievable wind and noise, tornados, flying objects... all while you're sitting in the dark hoping your house won't fly or float away or a tree won't come crashing thru the roof. quite exciting!!!

the duration always gets me - With Francis we had winds from 35-90 mph for two days... That was a slow mover...

All we're getting is a sprinkle and some wind (20 mph with gusts to 30+). It's early yet.

I have a generator and 2 UPS units. The cable, cable internet & cordless phones are connected to the UPS's. I'm hoping, even if we lose power, to keep internet and cable.
