fat chance on the cable. I don't remember the reliability of cable when I lived in Texas, but up here the cable goes out whenever the neighbor sneezes. o.k. I'm exaggerating just a bit, but we have lots of cable outages whenever the wind picks up; a problem exacerbated with our large number of coniferous trees with heavy branches hanging over utility lines. we occasionally get storms in the wintertime with winds sometimes reaching hurricane force for hours on end. thankfully they're not all that frequent

after a hurricane (sometimes during) I usually drive around checking my parents properties and friend's homes and buildings. Trees down everywhere, electrical wires strung across the road, houses with roofs gone, homes damaged and buildings destroyed. Rain and more rain..I'm usually up all night watching all this happen. No electricity or water for days. no phone. no TV. only the food you stored before the storm. During the storm the wind and rain is unbelievable. the house shakes, things crash into the outside walls. you hear sounds of trees breaking and objects being blown around. it's something you'll remember for quite a while. right now we have 30-40 mph (going to 40-60mph later tonight) winds outside and we're almost 200 miles east of the storm. it's really quite an experience to sit through these things

We're going to bed. I'll check in, in the morning, one way or another!

Well, the wife woke up. So that means I'm up too. Definitely in TS conditions. Looks like sustained 50 and gusts much higher.

Oh, and you can barely hear the storm in the bedroom with the plywod up. My office is a completely different story.

So far so good. The power is still on, but it has gone off for a few seconds, several times. Looks like we have about 7 to 10 hours more of the TS winds.

our power went off and on all night. Lots of wind and rain. We were on the opposite side of this storm so we got wind from the other direction. The 80ft section of fence in my yard that got bent due to the Katrina winds has now been bent straight back up.

Ive heard that another I10 bridge collapsed somewhere towards Lake Charles

At least Houston is on the west side of the storm - That's important = Now you just have to have a head's up for rain and the occasional tornado...

Still getting some good gusts, but the sun is coming out at times. Our neighbors are now calling to see how it is and whether to come back yet.

we're still having torrential rain and 40mph winds. over 2 inches of rain today and more tonight. it's actually worse right now than when the storm came ashore earlier
