Probably the worst big game call since the "phantom tag" back in 99.

Such a bad call....the plate ump CLEARLY called the third strike and then the out sign....and they showed it over and over and over and it still didn't change.
And when they interviewed him he gave some LAME excuse that the ball had "changed directions" WTF does that have anything to do with your call, Blue? Too bad! ![]() |

Definitely one of the worst calls I've seen in baseball. I'm not even an Angels fan, and I feel bad for them. Just wait until the sox come back to so cali.......

AJ persinski (SP?) is a puke, i'd expect him to run after being called out. i am a sf giants fan and he was apparently a cancer in the club house last year, his only year in a giants uniform.
did you guys see the press conference with the umps after the game on espn? dude was not comfortable at all. |

Suck it up ladies and quit your belly aching. It was perfectly obvious from my seats mid way up the upper deck behind home plate that the ball hit the dirt.

I didn't watch the game last night, and this morning I walked into the TV room, as my wife watched the news. I had no idea what had happened, and I saw 3 replays of the ball being caught by the catcher. I saw the ball "change direction", as the umpire said. I thought for sure the ball hit the dirt an instant before going into the mitt.
However, the ump could never have seen the ball hit the ground. It was surrounded by the mitt. The ump blew it by not being clear about the ruling. If the hitter can run to first, the ump has to let the team on the field know it. How many times have I seen the catcher tag the runner after a marginal catch, just in case? Plenty. The catcher should have been more dilligent.

The catcher cannot see the umpire and is not expected to know when he has used a hand gesture to signal a strike. The umpire never records an out with a hand gesture. Never. An out is only recorded verbally by the umpire. In this case, the catcher thought he caught the ball cleanly (and he probably did), but he never heard the umpire record the out. Bad call? Yes. But the fact that the runner made it safely to first is the fault of the catcher and no one else.

I blame the catcher for not tagging the batter or throwing it to first because he "assumed" he was out. He never verbally heard the umpire say out, and if you dont hear it, the play isnt over.

Even your pitcher knew it was in the dirt. Thats the only thing that could explain the meatball he threw Crede on an 0-2 count.

I have no reason to pull for either team or to defend the call. I didn't see the call live or the replay but from what I understand that call gave Chicago the opportunity to win the game. It didnt win the game for them. Score was still 1-1 after the call. "J. Crede doubled to deep left, P. Ozuna scored" I do believe that was the act that won the ballgame.
