I used to be a 2 pack a day, just loved me some Camels..
when my son was born, I would hold him and he would cry and rash up. the doc said he is alergic to cig smoke. I did everything to keep from stopping, change clothes, wash..nothing really helped.
I would go out to the garage and take all my clothes off and stand shivering in my skivies just to get a drag.. one night I looked at my reflection in the car window and saw a cold idjit in dirty drawers hunched over like a skell draging furiously on a fag.. I quit that night. never ever have had another since then, 16 years.

When i am travelling, especially in Asia, up to a pack a day. When i am home-zero, do not even have the urge. I could turn it on and off at will and sometimes wonder why people find it so difficult to quit. If you want to stop, just stop.

I find Pelican more addictive than anything else.

Oh, travelling is the WORST. That's always when I've fallen off the wagon. When I go to Europe I make a lot of long drives by myself all over Germany and Austria. No way can I do that without smoking. IN China it's much worse, since people smoke in every elevator in the hotels. It costs about $.50 a pack for good smokes and it's acceptable everywhere. Every taxi driver offers his fares cigarettes. Oh, how will I quit this?

1-2 packs a day. Every time I quite something really stressful happens in my life and I start again. I haven't had a drink in 20 years and that was pretty easy to do given that I wanted to do it. But i really enjoy smoking ..that makes it tough. Plus I didn't have a drink every 20 minutes so it was a bit easier to break that habit. I know I will snuff my last one soon..it's the right thing to do for my health i know.

I quit just over 4 months ago after 2 accupunture sessions. I felt great right away!

To those of you who quit congrats! To those who are trying good luck! It's true...you really have to want to stop, and be "right" in the head. The first 2 weeks are when you are most apt to lapse.

My wife agreed to grow her hair long if I stopped for 3 months. She's working on that for me, and I'm working on being around for her!

I quit with several on this board last winter and then had some significant changes happen in my life (all good) but it broke my concentration and I started up again. Again, I am willing to give it a go and would like help from the people on this board.

Well I quit a few weeks back ( emergency surgery, not related to SMOKE) so a week with my morphine pump,NICE..no miss smoking. & 7 days later sitting in the garden.. evil visitor offers smoke..shouldn't have...back to about 1 pack a day.Did the hypno thing and it worked. It was everyone trying to help me..ie going outside and such that drove me back.

I smoke maybe a pack a year. Bathroom attendants in bars in DC are the worst pushers for me. I figure - hell, I'm paying a dollar to take a piss, I might as well get something else for it, and take a marlboro light from his little setup.

I also smoke a few cigars a year, mostly the little ones that come in packs of ten in little tins - Macanudos or whatever. They taste better than marlboros but don't require the 2 hours/$8 commitment that a full cigar does.

I must admit I smoke them for the buzz. But I also know that if I pick up more than 1-2 a month I'll allow myself to become dependent, and that's definitely something I don't want.

I was three packs a day for 10-12 years, quit cold turkey 11 months ago. The psysical urges are gone and second hand smoke is no problem. I have had a few dreams about smoking, so the mental side is still there.
It's all mental, make up your mind and be done with it.

Now, if I could have one a weekend or on special occasions I would, but I can't. You know what to do.

I was smoking about 1.5 - 2 packs per day. For the last 4 years, I've been making it harder for myself to smoke. I didn't smoke in my house, and with each new car, I wouldn't smoke in it. When I quit, I was smoking a pack at work, and maybe 5 at home in the evening.

I've also been told by Drs that if you can limit yourself to 1 - 3 per day, it isn't any different than living in a large urban area as far as toxins go.

Like others have mentioned, I love tobacco. I wish I had the self control to limit myself to 1 - 2 cigs a day. Alas, in that respect, I am weak. Quitting booze was a LOT easier.

Well, I usually have one in the car on the way to work and don't bring any more with me. So that's one smoke at 7:30am and the next one is usually before dinner, one after dinner and maybe 2-3 more between then and bed. My problem is on weekends and when I work on my car. I burn through a lot then.

I haven't had a cig in over 9 years, and that was while I was in England. Something about hangin in the pubs with smokers makes you want to smoke. Before that it was about 4 years.

Now if I could just quit the chew. I quit the chew 3 or 4 times but only for a couples months at the most.

The hardest part of quitting is figuring out what to do after sex.
