Nice find Stijn, I spectated at the Manx back in 1987 by this point the Manta's were all being run by private teams but they still looked superb.

never liked Manta's, imho, they're uglie as sin
there's a whole "manta" culture in Germany
stereotype driver has a mullet, mustache, and his arm always out the window , called "der Manta fahrer"

spawned a bunch of joke like

"how can you tell if a Mantafahrer lives in which house of the street"

"by the blood on the left side of the garage door"

Manta fahrer sounds like a mirror image of a typical Ford Capri owner from the mid eighties. Manta's were actually fairly rare in the UK and their amazing ability to rust away combined with the attitude of what was the Vauxhall/Opel dealer network not supporting cars much over 8 years old means they are now incredibly rare here.

I have to admit I have a big soft spot for them.

Heh, I always love the sound of squealing tires on dirt. Nothing says 'academy award for sound design' like that! :)

I guess we have all seen bits of this but its an absolute classic. Walter Rohl, Audi quattro S1 and Portuguese spectators, a scary mix!
