I actually jammed with these guys at a NAMM show in the early 90's.
I had picked up a left handed venture's signature model guitar and asked if I could plug in. An old guy said sure, here ya go. Rumor had it that left handed guitar was made for Dick Dale who never got around to paying for it. Anyway I went into a ventures song, he picked up a guitar and joined in, next thing you know there were 5 of us playing. That's when i realized who I was playing with. We played walk don't run, pipeline, hawaii 5-0, telstar and secret agent man. Just fooling around but they played good! I was so intimidated that I didn't realize that a huge crowd formed and we got a standing O, There were no seats so no one was sitting down. They played alot like I did, except they didn't suck ![]() I recognize both guitar players in the video, I understand one of them is dead now. Last edited by sammyg2; 11-17-2007 at 06:54 PM.. |

Ya know what's weird?
I've been ignoring this thread for a very long time, but yesterday i started checking it out. Every single page, video after video. Lots of the links don't exist anymore but I must have watched and enjoyed many hundreds of videos. Turned out to be a great thread (except for a few blank who tried to screw it up with politics near the end). Thanks. |

How about George Thorogood vs. Bo Diddley??? With a little Willie Mosconi tossed in?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u30A1E4QoZw&feature=related The old guy laying down the cash in this video? Yep, the great Willie Mosconi...

This is one of the contest where a guy gets to shoot a half court shot for a million dollars (or something). But before his try, one of the cheerleaders gives it a go....you know, "just for fun"...and throws one up backwards...

PWD, some of those guys started playing together in 1958.
Makes me feel young ![]() Trivia, one of the guitarists in that video wrote and laid down the rifts for the monkee's theme sond and also last train to clarksville, and Nokie Williams (the guy in the hat) was the very first guitarist to use a fuzz pedal. His friend invented it for him, a guy by the name of Rhodes. As in fender rhodes. In the 60's, the ventures sold more records than the beatles. They've sold over 100,000,000 records since they started. The list of famous musicians who credit the ventures as a major influence is huge and ranges from Page to Townsend to the beatles to Elton John. In Japan they are still generally regarded as one of the best rock bands ever and still sell out every concert tour they do, and they about do one a year. They were playing surf music before it was surf music. The sound they invented was so cool that Jan and Dean, the beach boys, and Dick dale imitated it and turned it into surf music. they didn't write all the songs they do but all the groups who'se songs they covered were influenced by them, and IMO they did the covers better than the original songs ![]() Last edited by sammyg2; 11-22-2007 at 10:33 AM.. |

LOL, not only is this song the ultimate corny teeny bopper tune, this video also features the worst lip sync in history.
When I was in junior high my girl friend had this album and she played this song over and over until I just wanted to smash it into pieces. IIRC it's the reason we broke up. It's so bad it's good. crank it up ![]() Last edited by sammyg2; 11-22-2007 at 10:57 AM.. |
