Detonics CombatMaster?

I'm thinking about buying a used Detonics CombatMaster. I think it is a Mk VI, in polished stainless, Washington-made. Anyone have experience with these little guns?

I have a Detonics Scoremaster which is it's big brother.
I think they are the Porsches of the 45 world. One sometimes picks up stories that the company will be revived. Every Detonics I've tried likes hot loads. Recoil can be a little strange as most seem to twist a little to the side as well as the normal movement. Probably caused by the double recoil spring. I think the MK 6 had the short sight plane which was a sort of trademark - a bit of a pain for precison shooting. I don't think you will do better in a compact 1911 45.

Detonics has in fact been revived. http://www.detonicsusa.com/ Now they have a triple recoil spring. Not CA-certified, but I occasionally see the original Combat Masters for sale in CA.

I went and shot it. Really nice little gun, in great condition, and fired 6 magazines of reloaded FMJ without a hitch. Pretty accurate for a teeny gun. Something I'd really like to own.

But he wants top dollar. And 100 rounds would be about enough for one session. In comparison, a full-sized Smith & Wesson 1911 I rented at the range was much more pleasant to shoot and I grouped in 1/2 the diameter. I could easily do 200 rounds a session with that one. A brand-new one would be about the same price as the Deonics.

Hmm, decisions, decisions.
