Yo! Cali Surfer dudes
Pic was taken Sunday, 11 December 2005. Location? Off the Nelscott Reef, Lincoln City, Oregon. Most use jetskis to get out...bring full wetsuits. Used to...too old now. Paul

Looks like that guy made the section... Insane wave.
I only surfed twice the five years I was up there. Very scary place. Let's just say... it's not the beach... it's the coast.

Yeah, it happens when 300 foot water suddenly becomes 18' or so...this is rare, like Hawaii's North shore, there are good & less good days, but most of the year good paddle out rides can be found a bit North, a place called Pacific City...just ask where the point break is. Again...full wet suits, year round...water temps up here always in the mid to high 40's... The locals may be pissed, but just promoting Orygun tourism, right?
Besides, the word is out now...

The second and last time I surfed in Oregon....
COLD COLD morning... Florence Jetty... me and two other guys out. Cold day, but a beautiful day. Birds flying, seals swimming, glassy conditions. All of a sudden, the birds and the seals were gone... It was like someone had turned everything off. It was still. I have never been so freaked out in my life as I was at that moment in time. I absolutely KNEW the landlord was around and ready to collect rent. One of the other guys paddled in at the same time as me... It was clear soemthing very very Evil was around us. I swore I'd never surf in Oregon after that and never did. I get goosebumps typing that story out...

Maybe one of you Oregon guys can call BS on this story...
I went windsurfing in the Gorge about 10 years ago. When I was in one of the windsurf shops, some guys were talking about a surfer or sailor on the coast that got between a killer whale and its' pup. The killer whale supposed chased the guy ONTO the beach. Anybody hear such a story? Gettinheadstuds, That would freak me out. Did you warm up your wetsuit on the way in?

GettinHeadStuds (hilarious name BTW), what exactly do you mean by the landlord metaphor?

Too cold to surf in Oregon, I just don't dig that cold water thing, takes it right out of me, though I always liked the coast when I lived in Salem, across the street from the actual Looney Bin from that Nicholson flick, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; cool second pic, BTW

I went on a surfing road-trip in Washington and Oregon last month with the Girlfriend. The water was fine in full wetsuits/hoods. The swell was HUGE though...

Scott, thanks for the pics...I'm going to lift them. Guys, as you can tell, Scott reads light & composes well with his Nikon digital camera. If you're trying to sell a car in the Bay area, you could do worse than to slip a struggling "Bezerkely" student some loot for your internet ads. Surfers? I lifted the pic from the Albany (OR) Democrat-Herald, 12 December '05 issue. Evidently, there was a called at the last minute pro competition, $20,000 purse. Wish I'd known. I love watching the best perform...

We had a nice little swell in the SB area on Sunday. Was able to sneak out for a few.
I cant talk about my run in with the landlord as it still hit me late at night, but I can say dont ever be late with the rent!!! Paul, that pics is fantastic and reminds me of a spot near Santa Cruz.
