...it is the stinkin' hot and humid summers that I don't like! But that is another thread over on the R1100S board.

Jersey is always hotter in the summer and colder in the winter compared to NYC. It must be the ocean..

pbs, why not babystep it? move up to norCAL. less traffic, and some of the same good things. i think one single hurricane in florida, and i would go running back to LA. not a big fan of natural disasters, especially the ones on an annual rotation. no way.

Traffic is the number one reason why I'm getting out of the DC area. I cannot take it anymore. It takes me 20 min. on a good day to drive the five miles to the Metro station and then it's another 30-40 min. to my office. Metro is overcrowded, expensive and getting worse every month. Ditto for road traffic. Going to my gym on the weekends, the traffic is as bad as Mon. morning rush hour. I can't wait to move to the desert, where there's no winter or traffic. I can handle 110 deg. dry heat with no problem.

Rick - how about 110 F while sitting in traffic? I've been to Phoenix several times on vacation and the freeways there are packed like most major US cities. Try to find a job where your work hours are flexible so you can avoid the peak commuting hours. Honestly I love Phoenix, love the desert scenery, but the summer months are really brutal. Sitting in a pool lounge chair with a cold beer at 10:00pm sounds nice though...

Yes, some kind of telecommuting or work from home job is definitely in my future. I need to live/work away from heavy traffic.

Unfortunately you will find heavy traffic in Phoenix (and smog). The freeway planners are way behind.

Plus I think Phoenix real estate is very high on the list of markets starting to tumble. Spring will be the real indicator. Ping Richard (aka Motion) for what he thinks.

I don't think too many places compare to the traffic around Wash. DC. We are routinely #3, just behind San Fran. and LA. It's unbearable here and most of my driving is on weekends, still unbearable.
I'm headed out to AZ and NM in a few weeks to scout around. I'm not set on Phoenix, but from my job hunting, it appears to be where the most opportunity is. I also want to look at Flagstaff, Las Cruces and Tucson.

Check out Sedona AZ. High desert that avoids the extreme temperatures of Phoenix, absolutely beautiful area. The drive is 2 hours (110 miles) to Phoenix which would not be bad if you could telcommute PT from home say M-W-F and go into the office on T-TH.

I'm sure your a nice guy, but quite frankly we need more lawyers to leave the state. Taking employers to court for not paying prevailing wage? Indeed just what we need to jack up the cost of living, cost of business, oh, never mind, your going to Florida to make them pay those artifically jacked up wages.

Doesn't prevailing wage only apply to federal contracts? I think the Davis Bacon law is sometimes temporarily suspended for disaster recovery. But I would think this is just something US Attys. go after.

Sedona is not cheap. It is also overrun with astrologers and out of work actors. Roads are often packed with tourists. However, as you say...it is beautiful. Every window has a million dollar view. I much prefer Flagstaff to Sedona. It's a little bigger and you've got Humprey's Peak right there if you are into skiing.
