There are only a few places in the US that Id personally be able to stand to live... LA/So Cal is one.. Florida coast is the other. Maybe its the nice weather combined by busy lifestyle that has me like LA... maybe its the fact that Im from Detroit... which makes anywhere look like paradise at least for awhile anyway.

Have been offered several jobs in SoCal (Van Nuys and San Diego/Carlsbad area) and just cannot see moving there. First you cannot afford to buy a house and I own a very nice one here in Phoenix. Second the traffic is out of sight, third the fruits and nuts there, forth the wacko gun laws there prevents anyone from owning a weapon that might have been needed to protect it all. Just not worth it, I can put up with difficult weather a lot easier...

When people think of San Diego, they think of Coastal and Downtown. I know people who live in El Cajon (way east), pay over a 1/2 million for a house, have a terrible commute on I-8, and they still get 95-100 F temps in the summer. So, tell me how living in Houston or Dallas is so awful?

You want Coastal ? It's a Million plus for anything decent. You need a big big salary or a couple of them to do this.

????

I've been to LA 6 times on business in the last year and only ONCE was I able to discern the sky was blue. I don't know how you guys live with it, but I sure don't call that nice weather. I call that un-godly thick pollution.

If NJ is a toilet bowl, than LA must be the sewer.

I always thought NJ was the "armpit".

Never understood that as I lived right on the border of NYS, rather nice area if you don't mind suburbia.

Welcome!

I'm another Metro Detroit area transplant now living and calling Florida home.

Drive through package alcohol store on your left, gun store on your right.

After you live here a year, you are permitted to complain about tourists.

The traffic in Pompano sucks too. Not as bad as you described but pretty bad.

Florida's got bad traffic as well, Orlando and Tampa metros are really bad. Tampa is designed around the water and not around "logic" - Dad lives there and I used to work for the Cable co there and in Orlando. I can't imagine Pompano having low property values either...

But, if I was going to leave CA it would be for Florida.

Things to go see:

Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona
12 Hours of Sebring

Tracks to drive:
Sebring 12 Hour course
Daytona modified 24 hour course
Homestead Rolex infield course
Moroso Road course
Roebling Road is not far away

Hotter than hell 9 months a year, do your track days in the winter.

South Florida is really bad as far as traffic, plus you get to deal with unlicensed, uninsured drivers. I am sure southern California is a lot like Sout florida though as far as the Spanish speaking community goes. It helps to know spanish in south Florida.

Ahh, the old "grass is always greener" vision. He who moves too much may not actually not know where he "lives" I can understand the traffic being a reason to move. I get ancy if my car actually has to stop on my 10 minute ride to work.

I've bounced back and forth between Florida and Socal and have learned to appreciate both. It's clear you need a change of scene and South Florida will be very nice for you. You just might stay for good. Put your office in or near your house and the traffic just won't matter.

I left California over 25 years ago and moved to Anchorage. Not a bad place to live but it takes awhile to get used to the welfare republicans. I would avoid the deserts though. They tend to be the gathering place for people that have no desire to be found. Florida on the other hand is a great place for car people if you don't mind hurricanes. Good luck.

Welfare Republicans? That's a new one.

This thread makes me very greatful for our metro area of 700,000, in which even at the peak of rush hour I can drive from one corner to the other in 20 min. So what if we don't have an ocean, I don't look good without a shirt on anyway..

i totally disagree. once you move, you cannot afford to come back. unless you rent your home out, and pack up and move.
